  12. About the Royal Maundy Servicepublished at 09:16 British Summer Time 13 April 2017

    Amy Woodfield
    BBC Local Live

The main purpose of the visit is the Royal Maundy Service.

The service has been hosted in every cathedral across the country during the Queen’s reign - apart from Leicester. We are the last city to host it.

    Leicester Cathedral

Maundy Thursday is generally the Thursday before Easter and is remembered by Christians as the day of the Last Supper.

The word "maundy" comes from the command (mandate) given by Christ at the Last Supper, that we should love one another.

Part of the service involves the distribution of "Maundy money". It's given to senior citizens that have done service to their community.

The coins are made especially for the celebration and are inside red and white purses.

The number of people to receive them is reflected by the age of the monarch. As the Queen is due to turn 91 later this month, there will be 91 male and 91 female recipients today.

    BBC Local Live

You might remember last Wednesday when two youths held a 10-hour rooftop standoff in Dunkirk, Nottingham.

Well yesterday the 16 year olds, who can't be named because of their age, were detained.

The standoff in Cloister Street started at about 08:00 on Wednesday, closing the road and forcing a number of homes to be evacuated until the boys were arrested later that evening.

We captured footage of the boys throwing items, believed to be bricks and tiles, from the roof.

Chf Insp Andy Goodall, said there were no serious injuries but "the potential harm that the two boys posed was very high".

He said residents' cars and homes were left "extensively damaged".

  19. Chris Poulter believes pledge made by Labour is 'propaganda'published at 08:14 British Summer Time 13 April 2017

    BBC Radio Derby

The Conservative opposition at Derby City Council has said a list of 50 pledges made by the Labour administration is just propaganda in the form of an early manifesto.

The authority wants to turn Derby into the cleanest city in England by 2021, and set up its own energy company, called Ram Energy.

However the Conservative councillor Chris Poulter says it's all party politics.

  20. School and care workers criticised over girl's abuse deathpublished at 08:13 British Summer Time 13 April 2017

    Dave Wade
    BBC Local Live

Teachers and social care staff did not show enough "professional curiosity" into a Notttingham girl who died after years of abuse by her aunt, a serious case review has said.

Shanay Walker, seven, died from a brain injury at a house in St Ann's in July 2014 while in Kay-Ann Morris's care.

Morris was later cleared of murder after a trial at the city's crown court but jailed for child cruelty along with Shanay's grandmother, Juanila Smikle.

The review by Nottingham City Council's safeguarding children board found there were "tensions" at Southglade Primary School, where Shanay was a pupil, which meant that concerns that Morris was abusing her weren't passed on.

The report said it was striking the extent to which school staff noted that Shanay looked downcast when with her aunt, particularly when bruises or concerns were discussed.

Staff were unclear whether they could record or share this information, which the report said was unacceptable.

The report recommended schools routinely follow up referrals to children's social care in writing and "soft information" that raises concerns about a child's wellbeing should be collected and reviewed.

The city council says steps have already been taken to address the shortcomings.
