    Bosses at East Midlands Airport claim passenger numbers have increased by almost 5% year on year. 

    The figures, covering 2016/17, show 4.7 million people travelled through the airport - an increase of more than 220,000 people since the year before.

    A 19-year-old man has been arrested after a serious crash in Leicester last night.

    Police said a silver Peugeot 206 left the road on Aikman Avenue in New Parks just after 18:35 and crashed into a bollard. 

    A man in his 20s, who was travelling in the car, was taken to the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham, where he remains in a critical condition.

    Now here's something ewe don't hear every day (sorry) - a Peak District sheep has given birth to six lambs.

    The sheep on Brindley's farm, near Parwich, gave birth to three black lambs and three white ones, which owners say is extremely rare.

    A Nottingham musician is appealing for the safe return of her handmade Transylvanian violin. 

    Ursula Donnely left the instrument in the back of a taxi in the city a week ago.

    "It just shows you how kind people are and how thoughtful they are that they care so much that you've lost something," she said.

    A load of rubbish has been fly-tipped at a Nottinghamshire nature reserve.

    The waste was dumped at Attenborough Nature Reserve over the weekend. 

    "It is not a great way to start the week," Erin McDaid from the Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust said.  

    "Obviously they've chosen the most secluded spot in the car park where there are no cameras. 

    "That is something we are going to have to be really careful about because it spoils the site."

    Derby County owner Mel Morris says he expects the dispute over the sacking of his former CEO Sam Rush (pictured left) to end up in court. 

    Rush, the Chief Executive and President of the Rams since 2012 was sacked last week. 

    The club issued a statement saying he'd been dismissed on the grounds of "gross misconduct and breach of fiduciary duty". 

    Rush said the matter was "in the hands of his lawyers."

    Ben Youngs' decision to pull out of the British and Irish Lions tour to support his brother Tom and his wife through her terminal cancer shows his "great strength of character."

    Martin Ballard, presenter of the Leicester Tigers rugby show on BBC Radio Leicester, said: "Lions is still the pinnacle of northern hemisphere rugby despite all the commercial competitions that the players play in, they all want to play for the British and Irish Lions. 

    "He is in the form of his life so that is a mark of his character that he has pulled out of this. 

    "Tom is a very positive person, as is Ben, they've shown great strength of character." 

    The brothers will still play their part in the remainder of the season for Leicester Tigers, who face Wasps in the Premiership semi-finals in two weeks.

    The Chip and Pin micropub in Melbourne has been voted the best in the country by The Times newspaper.

    It was set up in 2014 after the building was converted from the former HSBC bank.
