    In the Nottingham East constituency, Labour's Chris Leslie holds a majority of 11,894. Barry Holliday, of the Liberal Democrats, will be one candidate vying for the seat. 

    Another Liberal Democrat, Tad Jones, has confirmed he will stand for the Nottingham North constituency. One of his rivals will be Labour's Alex Norris, who recently replaced Graham Allen

    In Nottingham South, Liberal Democrat Tony Sutton and UKIP's David Hollas will compete for the seat. Labour's Lilian Greenwood and Tory Jane Hunt will also stand.

    Conservative Robert Jenrick (below) will look to hold on to his 18,474 majority against Liberal Democrat David Watts and Labour's Chantal Lee.

    In Rushcliffe, Labour's David Mellen is standing again against Ken Clarke. He also stood in 2015. Joining the pair will be Liberal Democrat Jayne Phoenix. 

    Finally, in Sherwood, Becky Thomas - for the Liberal Democrats - and Labour's Mike Pringle have been confirmed as candidates for the seat alongside Tory Mark Spencer.

    More Nottinghamshire candidates for the upcoming general election have been announced.

    In Ashfield, Labour's Gloria de Piero (below) has confirmed she will be defending her majority of 8,820.

    In Bassetlaw, Liberal Democrat Leon Duveen will look to overturn Labour's majority

    Meanwhile, in Broxtowe, it has been confirmed that fellow Liberal Democrat Tim Hallam will compete for the seat against Conservative Anna Soubry and Labour's Greg Marshall.

    Tory Carolyn Abbott will face Labour's Vernon Coaker and Liberal Democrat Robert Swift for the Gedling seat, while Conservative Ben Bradley and UKIP's Sid Pepper will compete with Labour's Sir Alan Meale for the Mansfield constituency.

    Derbyshire County Council has cancelled its waste recycling centre charges under "emergency powers". 

    Residents were required to pay £3 per standard rubble sack to take soil, bricks, rubble and ceramics - such as bathroom furniture - to the centres. 

    But the fees were withdrawn on Saturday following the county council elections.

    The issue was the new Tory administration's top priority.

    Blake the border collie and Bella the lamb are "best of friends" according to Natalie Haywood, but the pair went missing yesterday while she was on the school run.

    Natalie said she was only out for an hour but when she got back the gate was open and the animals were gone.

    Bella is an orphan and is still being bottle fed. A cash reward is on offer for their safe return.

  10. Derbyshire County Council announces new cabinetpublished at 11:40 British Summer Time 9 May 2017

    Derbyshire County Council has announced its new cabinet after the Conservatives took control of the authority from Labour in last week's local elections.

    The Tories won 37 of 64 seats to claim a majority and wipe out Labour's 22-seat majority from 2013.  

    The new line-up - to be confirmed at the authority's annual general meeting on 24 May - is:

    • Leader and cabinet member for strategic leadership, culture and tourism – councillor Barry Lewis (below)
    • Deputy leader and cabinet member for highways, transport and infrastructure – councillor Simon Spencer
    • Cabinet member for health and communities – councillor Carol Hart
    • Cabinet member for adult care – councillor Jean Wharmby
    • Cabinet member for economic development and regeneration – councillor Tony King
    • Cabinet member for council services – councillor Angelique Foster
    • Cabinet member for young people – councillor Alex Dale

    Councillor Linda Chilton is to become the council’s chairman, with councillor George Wharmby selected as her vice-chairman.

    Did you witness a crash in the New Parks area of Leicester on Sunday? If so police want to hear from you.

    They were called to Aikman Avenue at about 18:30 after a car collided with a bollard.

    A man inside the vehicle was taken to the QMC in Nottingham - he remains in a critical but stable condition.

    A 19-year-old man was arrested in connection with the crash but has since been released.

    Some great work by the Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service - they've released this little muntjac deer which was trapped in railings in Melton Mowbray...

    They were called out by the RSPCA after the deer was spotted by a member of the public.

    There was a similar incident last week when a deer was trapped in railings in Birstall - that one had to be put down after it was rescued

    A teenager has been jailed for the manslaughter of a man who was stabbed in a car ambush on a Nottingham street.

    Aqib Mazhar, 21, of Russell Road, was stabbed in the chest on the street where he lived on 1 June. He died later in hospital.

    His car was blocked in by three vehicles, trapping him as he came under attack, police said.  

    Hamza Omar Adam (below), 18, formerly of Berridge Road, Nottingham, admitted the manslaughter of Aqib and was sentenced to seven years in prison yesterday.

    Nottinghamshire Police said forensic evidence linked Adam to the crime, and that fingerprints and CCTV show he was responsible with the others in the group for the "co-ordinated and planned attack".

    A judge said in December Mr Mazhar's murderer was still at large, and the force added: "Enquiries still continue to identify other members of the group responsible." 

    Four men have already been jailed over Mr Mazhar's killing.

    I'm in Ypres in Belgium remembering the dark days of World War One.

    This July is the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Passchendaele - it will be marked with a ceremony near here. 

    Amongst the 350,000 soldiers killed in battle were 600 from Leicestershire.

    This is the memorial of  Francis Nathaniel Tarr - he was an English international rugby union player who also played for Leicester Tigers...

    After his rugby career he became a solicitor in Leicester. He then volunteered for overseas service during the war. 

    He was killed in July 1915 near Ypres on the Western Front after being hit by a shell splinter while serving as a lieutenant in the 1/4th Battalion, Leicestershire Regiment. 

    Tarr was one of 27 former England internationals killed in the war.

    Council bosses have drawn up a shortlist of "about half a dozen" walls where a Mark Selby mural could go, according to city mayor Sir Peter Soulsby.

    Sir Peter announced plans to honour the Leicester snooker star after he won his third World Championship title last week. 

    Whilst the decision on a more permanent mural takes place, Selby will be honoured with a picture on one of the empty shop fronts under Leicester City Hall on Charles Street.

    A "pop-up" mining museum is coming to Kirkby in Ashfield and Mansfield later this year.

    The displays will be set up by former miners and include virtual reality headsets showing the inside of mines.
