    The owners of Mountsorrel Quarry, have confirmed that the man who died there earlier today (see 11:49) was a contractor working on the site. Tarmac have just released this statement:

    It is with great sadness that we can confirm a contractor, working at Mountsorrel quarry, lost his life earlier today (21 June). Our thoughts and heartfelt sympathies are with the man’s family, friends and colleagues. We are all shocked and saddened by this news and will continue to do all we can to help the authorities with their investigations, and to provide care and support for the team on site. As this investigation is ongoing, it would be inappropriate to make any further comment at this stage."

    This father and daughter have just been jailed for seven years each for the manslaughter of Kelly Machin.

    Natalie Bollen, who is 28 years old and from Leicester Forest East was sentenced at Leicester Crown Court along with her father 48-year-old William Gary Jelly from Thorpe Astley.

    In August last year Bollen and Jelly got into a row with Ms Machin. The 34-year-old had punctured a football belonging to one of Bollen's children after it landed in her back garden.

    Bollen punched Ms Machin and Jelly pushed or punched her to the ground. She later died as a result of internal bleeding.

    Pupils at a Nottinghamshire school have written messages of support to children in Manchester following last month's terrorist attack.

    After hearing stories in the news, children from St Peter's Cross Keys Primary School in Farndon were inspired to share positive messages with other children their age after the horrible events.

    "Some of the responses that they came out with were 'we stand as one' and 'one forever,'" their teacher Teresa Sharpe said.

    "I think it is an extremely grown up response that children of today are teaching grown ups how to behave to be honest with their reactions."

    Police said about 150 pairs of these Scarpa boots have been stolen from a lorry in Markfield.

    The lorry was broken into on Tuesday morning while parked at the services off Little Shaw Lane in Markfield.

    Police are asking the public to let them know if they are offered any for sale.

    A man has died at a quarry in Mountsorrel.

    Police have said they were called to the quarry on Wood Lane just after 05:00 after a reports of an injured man - he then died at the scene.

    A 17-year-old girl has been found dead at a house in Mansfield.

    A 21-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and will be questioned later, Nottinghamshire Police said.

    Forensic investigations are currently taking place at the property on Foston Close in the town.

    Officers believe it is an isolated incident.

    A family from Northamptonshire has donated £32,000 to the children’s charity Heart Link at Glenfield Hospital.

    The money will buy an Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) machine - an advanced heart and lung machine - for the hospital's specialist congenital heart unit.

    This machine helped five-year-old Willow Page in 2013 after she was diagnosis with an inflammation of the heart muscle caused by parainfluenza. She suffered three heart attacks and a stroke.

    Her family has raised the money through skydiving, fetes, bag packing at supermarkets and birthday donations.

    Willow's parents Denise and Iain Page said: “We are forever grateful to the nurses, doctors and consultants at Leicester’s hospitals who helped save our beautiful little girl. This is our way of giving something back.”

    The new ECMO machine has been officially unveiled at the hospital and has been named after Willow.

    Two other machines, costing about £28,000 each, have also been funded by Heart Link.

    Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it's a gold plastic cow...

    It is one of three that were on show at the RHS Chatsworth Flower Show earlier this month.

    They went up for auction after the show had ended and were bought by the Heights of Abraham.

    To celebrate the purchase - a cow has been going up and down in one of the cable cars.

    Lets hope it has a head for heights...

    Police have told the BBC they were called to Chapel Street at 08:29 - they closed the road but it has since reopened.

    The child was taken to the Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham with injuries not thought to be life threatening.

    The driver of the car was not injured.

    It means Boulter, 20, from Woodhouse Eaves, goes straight into the first round and could face the likes of world number one Angelique Kerber.

    The wilcard is also worth at least £35,000, with that being the amount a first round loser gets.

    She also has a wildcard into the women's doubles.

    Derby teenager Jay Clarke has got a wildcard alongside Marcus Willis into the men's doubles, but he has missed out on a main draw wildcard.

    There are still three to be announced so he could yet get a reprieve.

    Meanwhile, Arnold's Jocelyn Rae has received a wildcard into the first round of the ladies' doubles alongside partner Laura Robson.

    Bombardier's latest order for 750 carriages will boost business across the East Midlands, according to a leading rail expert.

    The Derby-based train maker, that almost went bankrupt in 2011, has been awarded a contract worth £900m by South Western to make the carriages.

    "It is very good news for people working at Litchurch Lane [Bombardier's main site]," Sim Harris from Rail News newspaper told BBC Radio Derby.

    "It is also very good news for other companies in Derby and the East Midlands, some of whom do supply Bombardier with various parts."
