    It will be a largely dry and bright start tomorrow with some good spells of sunshine through the morning.

    Scattered showers will move eastwards into the afternoon which have the potential to be heavy and perhaps thundery with blustery winds.

    A Rutland church is one of three churches to have been chosen to pilot a £3.8m scheme to solve the "national problem" of bats damaging churches.

    The Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) said it hoped the money would allow bats to live "in harmony" with congregations.

    A cyclist has died, external after a crash involving a tractor in Leicestershire yesterday.

    Police said the bike and tractor collided in New Inn Lane between New Inn and Market Harborough at 12:18.

    The cyclist was taken to hospital but died from his injuries. No-one else was injured.

    A plane flying from East Midlands Airport to Mallorca had to land at Gatwick Airport this afternoon after a medical emergency on board.

    Thomson Airways has apologised to passengers for the inconvenience and said it was working to get them back on their way to Mallorca "as soon as we can".

    No further details about the nature of the medical emergency have been released.

    This little ferret has finished a long walk with its owner Charlie Hammerton...

    Bandit, the ferret

    Charlie and Bandit raised £3,510 by walking the entire length of Hadrian's Wall - all 86 miles (138km) - in three days in memory of Charlie's mother, Jan.

    She died in March after suffering from motor neurone disease and Charlie undertook the walk just five days after her funeral.

    Charlie, who lives in Arnold, said: "Our story seemed to get a lot of interest from a lot of people about how inspiring we were, so we sort of ventured into motivational speaking - that is one thing I am very keen on."

    He is now gearing up for another charity walk - this time in the Netherlands.

    Leicestershire's police and crime commissioner Lord Willy Bach has warned young people to stop carrying knives.

    It comes as police in the county try to halt a trend which has seen knife crime increase by 25% in the past year.

    "When you go out, go out to enjoy yourselves, don't go out with knives - it's the most stupid thing you can possibly do," he said.

    "You're just as likely to be a victim as a perpetrator and if you're caught, you're likely to end up in custody and it can be as long as four years."

    Two men tried to rob a woman as she waited at a bus stop in Worksop at the weekend.

    The woman told police one of the men grabbed her arm and demanded she hand over her purse in Priorswell Road at about 03:40 on Saturday.

    However, she pulled her arm free and ran away without handing anything over.

    Marcus Dinanga has signed a new one-year contract with Burton Albion.

    The 20-year-old striker scored more than 30 goals while on loan at Matlock Town last season and has netted three times during the Brewers' pre-season campaign.

    Dinanga - who is listed as 116 years old on the club's website, external - said he hoped to earn a chance in Burton Albion's first team this season.
