    A man who absconded from HMP Sudbury in Derbyshire 22 years ago is back behind bars after being arrested in France.

    Michael John Ashworth was arrested while trying to board the Eurotunnel yesterday.

    Today, magistrates in Medway, Kent, told the 57-year-old, who's been living in Holland, he must serve the rest of his sentence.

    He had been accused of escaping from lawful custody, but the case was withdrawn by magistrates who heard he was on temporary licence and should not have been charged with the offence.

    The court heard Ashworth should have been charged with being "unlawfully at large following expiration of temporary licence".

    Ashworth said he had told police he wanted to hand himself in.

    A man accused of murdering a woman in Newark has appeared in court.

    Nottinghamshire Police were called to an address in Mill Gate on Wednesday.

    Karen Jacquet, 58, was pronounced dead at the scene.

    Yousuf Mohammed, 65, of Mill Gate, was remanded in custody and is due back at Nottingham Crown Court in November.

    NCP is starting a "thorough internal investigation" into the partial collapse of a car park in Nottingham city centre this weekend.

    A spokesman said they "have informed the landlord, and will co-operate with any investigation conducted by the regulatory authorities".

    The car park will remain closed until further notice, with customers advised to use the nearby St James Street car park.

    A man has been found guilty of murdering another man following a party in Leicester.

    Lauric Lebato, 22, died in hospital after being found with a stab wound in Albion Street at about 04:00 BST on 11 February.

    Sulaiman Sillah, 20, from Bateman Road in Leicester, has been found guilty of murder, wounding with intent and violent disorder by a jury at Birmingham Crown Court.

    His co-defendant, Sheriff Oluwa, was convicted of violent disorder.

    Both will be sentenced later this afternoon.

    One of two men arrested at Leicester City's clash against Brighton has been charged with chanting indecently under Section 3 of the Football Offences Act.

    A 44-year-old Leicester man is accused of making homophobic comments during the match at the King Power Stadium.

    A second man, who was arrested on suspicion of making homophobic comments, has been given a conditional caution.

    In total, Leicestershire Police said, external three people were removed from the ground for "disorderly behaviour". Two were Brighton fans and one was a Leicester City fan.

    Their details are being passed on to their clubs for them to consider their attendance at future matches, the force added.

    A man accused of absconding from prison 22 years ago has been arrested by Kent Police at the Channel Tunnel in France.

    Michael John Ashworth, 57, was held in Coquelles on Sunday while trying to board a Eurotunnel shuttle to the UK.

    He is alleged to have absconded from HMP Sudbury in Derbyshire in 1995, where he was serving a five-year sentence for drug offences.

    He has been charged with escaping from lawful custody and is due before Medway magistrates later.

    The police cordon was taken down at about 11:00.

    Police added a woman, who was believed to have been punched in the face, suffered minor injuries and didn't require hospital treatment.

    A man remains in a serious condition in hospital after an alleged assault in Worksop in the early hours of Friday.

    Nottinghamshire Police said, external the incident took place in Bridge Place at about 02:10 BST.

    The 22-year-old man is in a serious but stable condition at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital in Sheffield.

    A 19-year-old man was arrested and has now been released under investigation, the force added.

    A computer hacker shut down the website of one of Europe's largest retailers in the hope of gaining employment with them.

    Jason Polyik had hoped his actions would result in Sports Direct employing him, Derbyshire Police said, external.

    The force added Polyik, of Shirebrook, targeted a second firm in the cyber attacks between July and September last year.

    Polyik left his contact details with both firms in the hope that they may employ him but instead, they contacted the police.

    At Derby Crown Court on Thursday, the 27-year-old was given a suspended sentence after admitting three counts of causing a computer to perform a function with the intent to secure unauthorised access.

    Police have just confirmed a 22-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of being in possession of offensive weapon in a public place. He has since been charged.

    Police added armed officers were deployed as a matter of "public and officer safety".
