A 16-year-old has picked up his GCSE results - despite being injured in a hit-and-run just weeks before his exams.
AJ Allen was hit by a car driving at 40mph through Ilkeston's pedestrianised Market Place in April.
He was rushed to the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham, but after tests he was able to be discharged the next day with cuts and bruises.
He suffered trauma and memory loss but was back at Ormiston Ilkeston Enterprise Academy within days to start revising for his exams.
Today he achieved the results he needed to get into Bilborough College in Nottingham, including a grade 6 in Maths, and four Bs in Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Finance.
His mum, Lindsay, said: “The ambulance crew was saying he shouldn’t be here after being hit at that speed.
“Today was a very emotional day for us all and we’re all so pleased that he got the results he wanted so he can go to college and follow his dream of being a personal trainer.”

A Hebridean ram lamb has been killed by a dog off its lead.
Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust said it had taken 83 of its lambs to Teversal Pastures in the county earlier this week to graze when the attack happened.
As a result the trust has closed the path, which isn't a public right of way, while the lambs graze to avoid another attack.
Hebridean sheep were until recently considered rare but their numbers have increased.
