    A woman who died after a crash involving her car and a lorry Melton Road, Long Clawson has been named.

    Shakila Khan-Ghumra, 29, of Leicester, was pronounced dead at the scene on 5 September.

    The lorry driver was not injured, Leicestershire Police said.

    Storm Aileen is on her way, and with strong winds predicted some people are taking no chances.

    Clumber Park has announced it's closing from 19:00 today until further notice, while Sherwood Pines will also be closed tomorrow.

    "Our forests are brilliant places to explore all year round, but in high winds it can be really dangerous, as branches are at risk of falling and in some cases whole trees have been uprooted," Sherwood Pines said in a statement released on its Facebook page, external.

    Police are looking for help to piece together what happened to a man who was found dead in the Peak District.

    Gary Sims, who was from High Wycombe but had travelled to the area while working in Manchester, was reported missing by his family on 23 August.

    The 60-year-old's car was found in a layby near the Snake Pass road a day later, and his body was discovered on 25 August.

    Derbyshire Police is looking to speak to anyone who was speak anyone who was in the Woodlands Valley area near to the Ashop River between 09:00 BST on 21 August 15:30 BST on 25 August.

  5. Debut of Sikh regiment to be told in new filmpublished at 15:44 British Summer Time 12 September 2017

    A new film about the Battle of Saragarhi is being released today on its 120th anniversary.

    It was the first time the British Indian regiment the 36th Sikhs saw action, led by Lt Col John Haughton, who went to Uppingham School in Rutland.

    He died while leading a regiment of Sikh soldiers to defend a small British outpost in the hills of the North West Frontier Province, now Pakistan, against 10,000 Afghan tribesmen.

    His and the regiment’s story will be told in the film.

    Burton Albion and Nottingham Forest will be looking to bounce back from chastening defeats over the weekend in tonight's Championship matches.

    A 23-year-old man from Newark arrested on suspicion of terrorism offences after returning from fighting so-called IS has been released on bail.

    Nottinghamshire Police said Aiden was bailed until the 13 of December.

    The 20th anniversary of the death of Princess Diana probably didn't pass you by but have you seen this tribute in Chesterfield?

    It's tied into the town's well dressing tradition and has received somewhat mixed reviews., external.

    Some have said it looks more like Rod Stewart or Clare Balding, while Julie White said: "I appreciate all the work that goes into the dressing of a well but this is just awful."

    Chesterfield Borough Council said the well dressing tradition "is designed to attract visitors to the area", and said more visitors off the back of the publicity for this effort "can only be good for Chesterfield".

    Just two ospreys remain at Rutland Water ahead of their autumn migration to Africa, the team behind the project has said.

    The Rutland Water Osprey Project, now in its 21st year, observes the fish-eating hawks from their arrival in spring through to the autumn.

    Ken Davies, from the project, said they've had eight pairs of ospreys, producing 15 chicks this season.

    A dad from Leicestershire has said proposed cuts to the special needs school transport services would have a major impact on his family.

    Yasin's son relies on the service to get to school and the family isn't sure how he travel if the service is cut.

    "It will affect us quiet negatively," Yasin said. "I am at work in the early hours of the morning so we rely on the transportation service.

    "If the local authority is looking at cutting the funding, it would affect us dramatically."

    Pam Posnett, cabinet member for passenger transport at Leicestershire County Council, said that while it was "regrettable" that they may cut the scheme, the council had to consider it finances.

    A consultation will be held for families in Leicestershire to have their say on the proposed changes.

    A mobility scooter caught fire on a Nottingham bridge causing tram delays this morning.

    Trams along the Wilford Toll Bridge were stopped in both directions at about 08:30 while firefighters dealt with the blaze.

    Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service has recruited for the first time in five years.

    The service has taken on 25 new full-time firefighters who will complete their training before being dispatched to their stations.

    Recruit Nicole Marvin, 31, from Elmesthorpe, said: "Of course it is frightening because we are all only human at the end of the day but it is about focusing on the situation at task and supporting the community and keeping them safe.

    "Grenfell was a huge, huge incident and weirdly enough it happened while I was going through this process which made me reflective and it certainly opened my eyes a little bit more to see how difficult this role can be to those doing it."

    Do you remember Rupert the stray kitten who was found with severely protruding eyes in Derby?

    It's thought the poor cat's severely protruding eyes were the result of a head injury.

    He has now had an operation to remove his eyes and alleviate the pressure.

    Rupert has now been placed in a foster home where he is recovering well, the RSPCA said.

    A Rottweiler attacked a man in a mobility scooter, leaving him with deep cuts to his thigh.

    Derbyshire Police said the incident happened outside the Nisa store on Humbleton Drive, in the Mackworth area of Derby, at about 21:15 on 4 September.

    The 49-year-old was taken to hospital so his injury could be treated.

    Two weather warnings have been issued for the East Midlands ahead of Storm Aileen which is expected to hit parts of the country tonight.

    A yellow warning has been issued for this evening and tomorrow morning with gusts of 55-65mph.

    There is an amber warning for strong winds from 23:00 until 05:00 tomorrow with gusts of potentially 65-75mph, causing travel disruption, tree damage and damage to power lines.

    Derbyshire have been put in to bat in their match at Sussex, and have passed 30-0 in their first innings.
