    Four students from Leicester are going to appear on the BBC TV show that makes most of us feel very stupid - University Challenge.

    Pip Brown, Stanley French, Graham Aldred and Jamie Byrne from the University of Leicester will feature on the programme scheduled to air on 18 September.

    They'll have a lot to live up to - the university had the first ever winning team in 1963.

    The Parsons Green station explosion that has injured at least 22 people shows the chance of terrorists succeeding in causing significant damage is low, according to a University of Nottingham academic.

    Afzal Ashraf, a visiting fellow at the university's centre for conflict and terrorism, said his daughter was in a train behind the one with the explosive device.

    He said it is "very fortunate" nobody seems to have been seriously hurt, and believes CCTV from the area will mean a suspect could be identified or even arrested "in the next few hours".

    Dr Ashraf said the UK has "some of the best" counter terror and security systems in the world, which has kept the threat low, but said there was a need to "look at the global political situation which feeds the motivation for these horrible incidents".

    Derbyshire Police say they are investigating an alleged assault on an 81-year-old woman in Baslow.

    A man claiming to work for Age UK is said to have approached her at her home on Bubnell Lane between 10:30 and 11:10 on Thursday.

    He is then said to have grabbed her, causing a cut to her arm.

    A police spokesman said Age UK confirmed the man - believed to be in his 70s and driving a silver car with "a weird-shaped roof" - did not work for them.

    Passengers on a Ryanair flight that had to perform an emergency landing at East Midlands Airport are due to depart for their original destination soon.

    A spokesman for the airport said they're set to leave for Copenhagen at 13:46.

    The Boeing 737 set off from Stansted at 08:07, and landed at East Midlands at about 10:15.

    It was towed off the runway and the area was cleared an by 11:15.

    East Midlands Airport said disruption to other services was "minimal", with one incoming flight forced to divert to Birmingham airport to refuel before it arrived in East Midlands.

    Atlantic salmon have been discovered in the River Ecclesbourne for the first time in about 250 years.

    The Environment Agency claim the discovery of juvenile salmon in the tributary of the River Derwent comes following the installation of fish passes that help the fish move upstream through the river.

    It said during the Industrial Revolution poor water quality and weirs acted as a barrier to fish migration leaving them stuck in unsuitable water.

    Investigators from the Air Accidents Investigation Branch have been sent to East Midlands Airport, where a plane made an emergency landing after losing a wheel.

    Traffic was held on the nearby M1 motorway while the jet landed.

    The flight from Stansted to Copenhagen was diverted soon after taking off.

    In a statement, Ryanair said the aircraft "landed safely" and passengers were being put onto another flight.

    Ryanair has said is was because the plane lost of one of its two nose wheels after take-off.

    A spokesperson said: "The aircraft landed safely in East Midlands, customers disembarked and will board a replacement aircraft shortly.”
