    A 26-year-old man who died following a crash involving a fire engine has been named by police.

    James Sarson from Attleborough in Nuneaton was driving a BMW when it was involved in a collision with a fire engine on Sunday.

    He was taken to Leicester Royal Infirmary where he died shortly afterwards.

    His passenger, also 26, sustained non life-threatening injuries and remains in hospital.

    The crash happened on the southbound carriageway of the A563 Lubbesthorpe Way in Leicester.

    He is a product of the club's youth academy and has made more than 30 appearances for the reds since making his debut against Reading nearly a year ago.

    Staff working for Ryanair had to call Leicestershire Police for help yesterday when a passenger became "disruptive" during a flight from Palma.

    Ryanair said the aircraft landed normally and the passenger was removed and detained by police.

    The airline said: "We will not tolerate unruly or disruptive behaviour at any time and the safety and comfort of our customers, crew and aircraft is our number one priority."

    Police have confirmed they helped airline staff escort the passenger from the plane but said that no-one was arrested.

    Two men have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a pedestrian was hit by a car and left with life-threatening injuries.

    A woman has also been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

    A 27-year-old man remains in hospital in a critical but stable condition following the crash in Derby Road, Ripley, at about 2:00 on Saturday.

    The two men, aged 22 and 27, remain in police custody along with a 26-year-old woman.

    Officers are appealing for witnesses to come forward after a school girl was approached by a man.

    He asked the girl to get into his grey or silver Mercedes in Mellbreak Close in Gamston, Nottinghamshire Police said.

    The man, who is described as being aged late 40 to 50s with an Asian accent, was wearing a white shirt with a blue tie and a dark coloured coat.

    It happened on Thursday between 15:15 and 15:35.

    Derbyshire Police have responded to a report criticising the way in which police forces around the country tackle modern day slavery.

    Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary said victims are being let down by some forces at every stage. It said many cases are closed without any inquiries being made or even without victims being spoken to.

    Derbyshire Police said they're currently involved in 21 separate anti-slavery operations.

    They have a specialist team to find and engage with potential victims and they've recently arrested six people under Operation Doubrava.

    They've said work to tackle the problem will increase.

    A young farmer from Nottinghamshire has been named agricultural student of the year.

    Ben Theaker, who doesn't come from a traditional farming background, is a graduate from Nottingham Trent University.

    He is now carving out a career in Worksop and is a member of Nottinghamshire Young Farmer's.

    Ben scooped the British Farming Award at a ceremony in Birmingham.

    Leicester City have decided not to contest a FIFA decision that prevents new signing Adrien Silva from playing.

    The deadline to register the new midfielder was missed by 14 seconds during the transfer window last month.

    The Foxes said they feel "powerless to continue to challenge the decision" but will support Adrien if he decides to make a personal appeal.

    Some of Derby's most well-known buildings will turn purple for polio this evening.

    It will mark the centenary of Derby's Rotary Club, which together with other clubs around the world, has campaigned to eradicate the disease.

    In the last year only 11 cases of polio have been recorded in two countries - Pakistan and Afghanistan.

    Versace, Louis Vuitton and Chanel... it's a tough life for the abandoned dogs at a kennels in Ilkeston.

    They've been give 41 designer blankets to keep warm this winter - the only thing is, they're fakes.

    They're among 200 items seized by Nottingham City Council’s Trading Standards earlier this year.

    Instead of destroying them they've been given to Castlefield Dog Rescue.

    A driver was taken to hospital with minor injuries after crashing into a bungalow in Retford last night.

    Luckily no-one inside the home, in Morley Avenue, was injured in the crash, which happened at about 17:10.

    The building has been made safe by the council. Notts Police said there had been no arrests.

    A 33-year-old man is due to appear in court in connection with a fatal crash in 2014.

    Young Noel Munyanyi, of no fixed address, is charged with causing death by dangerous driving and death by careless driving whilst being unfit through drink.

    The crash happened on Aikman Avenue in the New Parks area of Leicester. As result 30-year-old Kainos Mupungu, who was a passenger in Mr Munyanyi's car, died.

    The child being transgender seems to have has divided opinion.

    Teachers and parents from Nottingham will be at Westminster today to protest school funding.

    They claim some schools are facing budget cuts of up to £740 per pupil over the next three years and that parents are having to supplement aspects of their children's education.

    Sally Bates is from Nottingham and sits on the National Association of Head Teachers board.

    She said: "Headteachers look at this so carefully across a year when you are doing your budget to plan how often we are going to ask for money, what sort of events can we put on, but it is getting tougher and tougher.

    "You are going to see more inequalities coming through because some parents can afford to pay for things."

    The government said there are no cuts in funding and that actually every school will see an increase to its budget.
