    Notts County are a side Premier League teams will want to avoid in tonight's FA Cup third round draw, according to former Republic of Ireland international Kevin Kilbane.

    The Magpies, who are second in League Two, made it through the third round with a 3-2 win over Oxford City at Meadow Lane.

    Commenting on the work of Notts manager Kevin Nolan, Kilbane said: "He's doing a very, very good job."

    A political activist from Derby has gone on trial, accused of duping people into nominating local election candidates for the Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition.

    The TUSC party stood in eight of Derby's electoral wards at the 2016 local elections.

    To do that, their party agent, 59-year-old Christopher Fernandez of Wingfield Drive in Chaddesden, had to collect dozens of nominating signatures from members of the public.

    The prosecution says 80% of the signatories believed they were signing a petition about the closure of Moorways swimming pool.

    Mr Fernandez has accepted two charges relating to false signatures, but has denied 14 other charges.

    The trial continues.

    The stone building, situated on the now disused southbound platform, has been converted from a waiting room to a holiday cottage.

    Derby County's Matej Vydra has been nominated, external for the Championship player of the month award for November.

    It comes after he scored five goals for the Rams - including a hat-trick at Middlesbrough.

    He's up against Albert Adomah (Aston Villa), Willy Boly (Wolves), Ivan Cavaleiro (Wolves), Barry Douglas (Wolves) and Leon Clarke (Sheffield United), with the winner announced on Friday.

    A man who was found in a car in a ditch in Leicestershire this morning died at the scene, police have said.

    Officers were called to the A426 in Dunton Bassett at 07:43 and found the man inside the car.

    A Leicestershire Police spokeswoman said: “Work is being carried out to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

    “The road is currently closed and is likely to be for a number of hours."

    More details are expected to be revealed by the force later. It was earlier reported that the ambulance service took someone to hospital suffering hypothermia.

    England and Notts batsman Alex Hales will not face criminal charges over an incident outside a nightclub in Bristol in September and is available for selection, the England and Wales Cricket Board says.

    He had been with all-rounder Ben Stokes, who was arrested on suspicion of causing actual bodily harm.

    Hales, 28, was not arrested but was interviewed under caution by police and was not considered for selection.

    He could still be punished by the ECB, which has put its internal disciplinary process on hold until any criminal proceedings against Stokes are concluded.

    "Alex Hales will now be considered for England selection," the ECB said in a statement.

    A woman from Duffield is donating a 30ft Christmas tree she planted in her garden more than 40 years ago to a children's hospital.

    Jean Hunt, 84, said she wanted to give something back to the Royal Derby Hospital, where it's based, as a thank you for giving her excellent treatment over the past few years.

    The Norwegian Spruce was cut down this morning by a local tree surgeon who offered his services for free.

    Three masked men - one armed with a possible firearm - stole cash from a pub in Oadby.

    Police said three men went into the Cow and Plough on Gartree Road at about 23:30 last night.

    One of the men was carrying what was believed to be a gun - it's thought the other two were also armed.

    A man has been taken to hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening.

    Police deployed an armed response team to the scene. Two men, both aged 22, have been arrested and remain in police custody.

    A teenager was tripped to the ground, kicked by a group of men and had his phone stolen while walking through a park in Derby, external.

    Police said the 19-year-old was attacked and robbed near Mackworth Road at about 18:00 on Friday 17 November.

    The victim said the robber and his friends fled after being shouted at by a passing dog walker.

    Details of the attack have only just been released by police.

    A driver has been taken to hospital after crashing into a ditch off Lutterworth Road between Cosby and Dunton Bassett.

    The ambulance service told the BBC a call was received just after 8:00 this morning and a person was taken to the Leicester Royal Infirmary.

    The air ambulance was also sent to the scene of the crash.

    George Thorne made his first league start for Derby County since May 2016 in their 1-0 win over Burton Albion on Saturday.

    The influential midfielder, who played 79 minutes, said his return had been "a long time coming" and he had felt very good physically before "running out of steam" late on.

    The victory took the Rams back into the play-off positions. Their next game is away at Barnsley on Saturday.

    Two HGVs and a cement mixer were involved in the collision just before the junction with Seagrave at about 07:00.

    One driver has been taken to hospital in Nottingham with a leg injury.

    Recovery is at the scene and arrangements are being made to clear the fuel spillage and repair damage to the central reservation.

    Someone in Nottinghamshire recently phoned 999 because they were worried about a pie that had been left cooking in their oven.

    The call was highlighted by Notts Police as an example of the type of situation that shouldn't be phoned in to their emergency call handlers.

    He's leaving to take on the same role at Worcestershire County Council but is staying around until April.
