    "All of a sudden there was a huge bang and a scraping noise and the tram veers over a few feet," said Carole Wall, who was on the tram when the crash happened.

    "It looked like a white van had crashed into the tram, totally derailed and blocking all four lanes of the boulevard."

    Nottinghamshire Police were called at 14:50 after a crash involving a tram and a van, a force spokesman said.

    The driver of the van is fine but some passengers on the tram have “minor injuries like whiplash”.

    Carole Wall, from Beeston, was on the tram which was hit by a van just after it left the University of Nottingham tram stop heading out of the city.

    She said passengers were screaming and one woman needed medical attention after being knocked to the floor.

    The orange line number 36 and navy line number 49 buses are accepting tram tickets.

    Trains are also accepting tickets from Beeston to Nottingham, NET said.

    Barrie Pick, 74, went on trial at Nottingham Crown Court two weeks ago.

    A jury has today found him guilty of abusing a boy at the former Beechwood Children’s Home in the mid-1970s.

    A teenager accused of attempting to bludgeon a rape victim to death in an act of "desolating wickedness" has opted not to give evidence in his defence.

    The 17-year-old claimed through his legal team that he intended to render the victim unconscious, but did not intend to end her life after arming himself with a paving slab in Leicester's Victoria Park on 3 July.

    The teen, who cannot be named because of his age, admits rape and causing grievous bodily harm with intent - but denies attempted murder.

    The boy's defence case was concluded in less than a minute by his QC.

    In the closing speech, prosecutor Gordon Aspden claimed the attack was an attempt to "silence" the victim.

    The jury is expected to retire after the judge's summing up later today.

    A mum from Mansfield who is selling wedding dresses to raise £80,000 to pay for treatment on her son's tumour has received a huge boost.

    Sandra Marshall wants specialist stem cell treatment in Germany for her son Jack who has a brain tumour.

    We featured Sandra's story yesterday and it touched listener Joy so much she said she's donating £20,000 to the cause.

    "I never knew a mother's love - what a thing for a mother to come on the radio and ask for help for her son," she said.

    "Well I was able to help and I'm really glad I did."

    Joy, who has no children, said she buried her husband last week.

    A community group in Chaddesden, Derby is helping hundreds of young people boost their confidence through wrestling.

    Members of Aspire Wrestling Alliance say lives are being changed with many of their students improving their social skills and making friends.

    The group's been awarded Children in Need funding which will help an additional 150 disadvantaged youngsters get into the ring.

    A drunk Derby man who was caught trying to urinate in a doorway, external in broad daylight in the city centre cheekily asked a judge if there was any way his fine could be reduced.

    Southern Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court heard how Graham Wright stood in the derelict doorway in The Morledge in full view of people buying food from a neighbouring takeaway.

    Police have said a man arrested after a series of suspicious fires in Loughborough has been released with no further action.

    Seven reports were received of fires in the town between 19:50 and 22:40 on Monday.

    The first took place in the middle of Belton Road, near garages and a petrol station.

    Bin fires were reported in Russell Street, Mill Lane, Bridgeland Road, Wolsey Way and Morris Close and a sofa was set alight in Queens Road (pictured), causing damage to nearby flats.

    One person was taken to hospital with smoke inhalation.

    A 20-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life but has been released with no further action.

    PC Pete Colgate said: “We believe these fires were deliberate and very dangerous acts and could have resulted in someone being seriously injured."

    Dozens of batteries have been stolen from golf buggies at a Nottinghamshire course.

    Police said several buggies were moved to a secluded part of Oakmere Golf Club in Oxton last Wednesday night.

    A total of 44 batteries were removed from the carts.

    Police believe some of the buggies were driven around the golf course causing damage.

    Remember when Storm Doris battered the country back in February 23?

    Leanne Bateman came out of her house in Leicester Forest East to discover a tree had fallen on her car.

    She would have been in the Jaguar at the time, she said, but she'd stayed in to have a cup of tea with her daughter before leaving.

    She loved the vehicle because it had been given to her by her mum, she added.

    Her insurance company has warned she'll lose her no-claim bonus and face higher insurance payments if she claims, she said.

    Leanne said she had previously complained about the tree to Leicestershire County Council, saying it was rotten.

    She said it’s caused her great stress and shock and she's taking the council to a small claims court in January.

    A spokesman for the authority said: "We were sorry to hear of the damage to Ms Bateman's car which occurred during a severe storm.

    "As court proceedings are ongoing, we are unable to comment on any legal issues which are specific to this case."

    A robot has performed a hysterectomy, external on a Nottinghamshire woman.

    Julie Clarkson, 76, from Southwell, became one of the first people to have robot assisted gynaecological surgery at a Nottinghamshire hospital when she had her operation on Saturday, November 25.

    A pensioner used his walking stick to fend off a robber who forced his way into his house in Crich.

    Matthew Birks was holding what was believed to be a knife when he entered the property in Glebe Field Close in May this year.

    The 85-year-old hit Birks over the head twice with his stick before he fled empty-handed, Derbyshire Police said.

    Officers later charged Birks when his fingerprints were found inside the property and traces of his DNA were on the walking stick.

    The 21-year-old, of Market Place, Crich, was charged with one count of attempted robbery and one of having a bladed article in public.

    He pleaded guilty to both charges and was sentenced to three years and eight months in prison at Derby Crown Court last week.
