    This picture of a windmill is believed to have been hand carved by Sir Isaac Newton on the wall of his childhood home.

    It was discovered at Woolsthorpe Manor, near Grantham, by researchers from Nottingham Trent University.

    The famous scientist was born at the house in 1642 and later returned to live there during the 1660s and it's claimed he observed the falling apple that led to his theory of gravity in the garden.

    Reflectance Transformation Imaging (RTI) technology was used to reveal the image, which was next to a fireplace.

    Chris Pickup from the team said he hoped other drawings would be discovered.

    Oh dear! It looks like a flock of sheep has escaped from Newark's Livestock Market.

    They have headed over to a car park owned by Newark and Sherwood District Council on Great North Road.

    The sheep are due to go on sale tomorrow, so they will need to head back!

    Delays are building up in Nottingham city centre due to a crash involving two cars.

    Nottinghamshire Police were called to the collision on Wilford Street at about 12:55.

    The force said there are no reported injuries but officers are advising drivers to avoid the area while recovery work takes place.

    A purpose-built bereavement suite for families who have been affected by stillbirth has been officially opened at Nottingham City Hospital.

    The new Serenity Suite - funded by Beeston-based charity Forever Stars - was unveiled earlier today.

    Patron and BBC East Midlands Today presenter Anne Davies was on hand to cut the ribbon at the opening ceremony.

    A painting by Joseph Wright set an auction record for the world famous Derby artist when it sold for £7,263,700.

    The piece - entitled An Academy by Lamplight - is from 1769.

    It was sold at the Old Masters evening sale at London's Sotheby's on Wednesday.

    More than £25m worth of art was sold during the evening.

    Wright - known as Joseph Wright of Derby - was the first major English painter to be based outside London.

    The English landscape and portrait painter was the first artist to depict industry and scientific experiments of the age. He died in 1797.

    A 67-year-old man who died following a crash near Lubenham has been named as David Stacey.

    The six-vehicle crash happened on the A4304 at about 11:10 on 27 November.

    Nottingham gymnast Ellie Downie is on the shortlist for BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year.

    The 18-year-old became the first British gymnast to win all-around gold at a major international event with victory at the European Championships.

    Ellie won the title in 2015. Previous winners also include Wayne Rooney, Andy Murray and swimmer Ellie Robinson.

    Among the judges on the panel is Nottingham Olympic hockey star Helen Richardson-Walsh.

    A greengrocers in West Bridgford is closing its doors after 50 years of trading.

    Mum and son Marcia and Ashley Miles have been managing Salad Bowl for 15 years but it has been in owner Glynn Thomas' family for half a century.

    The family says increased business rates, rents and cheap supermarkets have left them unable to compete.

    Jesus's birthplace has been fashioned out of cake to raise money for a Peak District school.

    Baker, Lynn Nolan, spent five months making this 6ft long edible version of Bethlehem, which includes 90kg of icing.

    It's complete with stable, manger and the baby Jesus himself.

    Children at Youlgreave Church of England Primary School who helped create it are set to benefit when the entire cake village is auctioned off later this month.

    They're trying to raise £60,000 for a new playground.

    Last year Lynn made a tasty replica of the entire village out of cake.

    "I've no plan, it happens as I go along, the only thing I have is the picture in my head so I've got to go with that," she said.

    A petition opposing plans to see retained firefighters man fire stations at night will be handed in to bosses at the fire service.

    There are proposals to see two stations out of Ashfield, Retford and Worksop only have retained part-time firefighters overnight.

    The petition has thousands of signatures and will be handed over by Nottinghamshire MPs Gloria De Piero and John Mann.

    Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service say this is the best option to save money without making redundancies or lose fire engines.

    Mr Mann, MP for Bassetlaw, said: "If they are desperate to save that little bit of money, they could retire some at the top...there are other ways.

    "But cutting my service and giving my area a second class fire service compared to other areas that is not an acceptable way."
