    Preparations are under way for the return of the Robin Hood Pageant at Nottingham Castle this weekend.

    The event was cancelled in October due to hurricane warnings.

    Visitors can see what 12th century Nottingham was like, with demonstrations of period cooking, jousting and archery.

    Severn Trent is continuing to give out bottled water to people in Buxton and Ashbourne who remain without tap water following a number of pipe bursts earlier this week, external.

    The firm said the situation had "vastly improved" overnight and water had been restored to more properties.

    It said anyone still without running water can pick up free bottles from Ashbourne's Shawcroft car park, Sudbury Hall and Buxton Market Place.

    Bottles are also being delivered to homes in rural parts of Buxton.

    Two 18-year-old men have been arrested on suspicion of racially-aggravated public order offences after a video was made public showing apparent racist abuse at Nottingham Trent University.

    Nottinghamshire Police said the pair remain in custody as their investigation continues.

    Nottinghamshire have signed New Zealand international Ross Taylor as their overseas player for the first half of the season., external

    Taylor, 34, has agreed a deal at Trent Bridge until the end of June, meaning he can play in eight County Championship matches and all eight Royal London One-Day Cup pool games.

    Should the Outlaws progress to the quarter-finals and beyond, Taylor would be available to return to take part in those matches too.

    He has had two previous stints in county cricket, with Durham (2010) and Sussex (2016, 2017).

    Mary Okpo, from Nottingham Trent University's Afro-Caribbean Society, has described a video of apparent racist chants being shouted in a halls of residence as "unacceptable" and "unjustifiable".

    She told the BBC's Victoria Derbyshire programme: "Whether they were inebriated or not, there's nothing that can justify what they said.

    "She [Rufaro Chisango] clearly was in a state of distress. This could have affected her incredibly but she's a strong girl so she has come through with our support and the support of her friends and family.

    "It's something I didn't think I'd see. I've always had an idea that racism is covert but for it to be so overtly open in 2018, it's something that's really shocked me."

    Nottingham Trent University has said in a statement that the "suspected perpetrators" had been suspended pending a full investigation.

    Nottinghamshire Police are also investigating the video that appears to show racist abuse aimed at a black student at Nottingham Trent University.

    In a statement, the force said: "We are aware of a video posted at Nottingham Trent University and which has been shared on social media.

    "It is wholly unacceptable and we’re proactively investigating the incident and liaising with the university.

    “We treat hate crime extremely seriously and we would always urge anyone who has been the victim of or a witness to hate crime to report it."

    Rufaro Chisango told the BBC's Victoria Derbyshire programme the apparent racist abuse she had received at her Nottingham Trent University halls of residence had left her feeling "shocked, isolated and uncomfortable".

    She said: "When it happened, I'd just got home and about five, ten minutes later I heard shouting outside my door.

    "After they left I went to reception and complained there was racial abuse outside my corridor. They took a statement, took down my details and stuff, and said they'd get back to me by the morning.

    "I just want the appropriate action to be taken. Obviously it shouldn't be tolerated at all."

    She also told her Twitter followers the abuse had left her feeling "fuming" and "sad".

    Nottingham Trent University says a number of students have been suspended after a video was posted online that appeared to show a black student being racially abused at her halls of residence.

    The footage, which Rufaro Chisango said was recorded on Monday night, features at least two males voices chanting outside the front door of her university accommodation.

    The video received wide condemnation after being shared online.

    In a statement, the university said: “We are shocked and appalled to see the video of racist chanting posted yesterday evening. This kind of vile behaviour will not be tolerated at Nottingham Trent University.

    "Those suspected perpetrators have been suspended immediately pending a full investigation.

    "We have contacted the student who made the complaint and are providing support to her and others affected. And we are liaising with the police about this incident."

    New measures are due to be announced later aimed at tackling a rise in crime in Nottingham city centre.

    Notts police and crime commissioner Paddy Tipping is expected to announce a new superintendent will take charge of city policing next month.

    Chief constable Craig Guildford said the restructure would provide "something similar" to the old city division, which was scrapped two years ago.

    The move follows a number of violent incidents in and around the Victoria Centre, including a mass brawl and an assault that left a woman in a coma.

    Police returned a woman's stolen car to her yesterday - only to discover she was unaware it had been taken, external.

    The Jaguar F-type was stolen from the woman's home in Strelley early yesterday but was found by officers in Quarry Avenue, Bulwell, a short time later.

    Police are now appealing for help in tracking down the thief, who was seen fleeing from the car.

    Drivers have been warned many routes in the High Peak area are likely to become impassable today, external due to heavy snow showers in north Derbyshire.

    The county council said only one road was currently closed - the A6024 Holme Moss - but conditions were likely to become increasingly difficult on others.

    It said its gritters and snow ploughs had been deployed to try to make life easier for drivers.

    There are currently no school closures listed on the council's website, external.

    Two cars crashed into the central reservation on the A50 near Sudbury last night after a driver swerved to avoid hitting a fox.

    Police said a Peugeot hit the barrier when it steered around the animal and a Skoda also crashed as it swerved to avoid the car.

    Thankfully neither driver was injured.

    Almost half of drivers who challenged parking and bus lane fines issued by local authorities were successful, figures obtained by the BBC suggest.

    Chesterfield Borough Council (50%) and Newark and Sherwood District Council (43%) had the region's highest rate of successful appeals over the past five years.

    Elsewhere the figure was 38% in Derby, 30% in Notts and 26% in Leicester.
