    People are being invited to learn more about the "fascinating" lives of peregrine falcons during a supervised observation session.

    The peregrines, who nest in a purpose-built hideaway at Leicester Cathedral, laid four eggs over the Easter weekend.

    Dr Helen O’Brien, from the city council, said: "The Peregrine Watch event this week is a great chance for people to observe the peregrines from the ground through telescopes.

    "It is a wonderful glimpse into the lives of these incredible birds and a reminder of just how much wildlife there is in the city."

    Telescopes and experts will be available from 09:30 on Wednesday morning in the Cathedral Gardens from 09:30.

    A man has been taken to hospital after an assault near Nottingham Trent University.

    Nottinghamshire Police said it was called out to Shakespeare Street at around 06:15 this morning to deal with the attack.

    The man's injuries are not believed to be life threatening, the force added.

    Nobody has been arrested.

    Two people have been arrested after police found these cannabis plants in the back of a van.

    Derbyshire Police said it initially pulled the vehicle over in Tibshelf on Sunday evening as it was showing no tax.

    They were astonished to find this haul in the back. The driver was also high on cocaine, the force added.

    This delightful collection of plate glass negatives of Derby Cathedral dating from the 1880s has been developed.

    They were uncovered recently by a volunteer at WW Winter photography studio in the city and developed in Nottingham using traditional darkroom methods.

    Mr Collins, who represents the St Anns ward, has been council leader for 15 years.

    Two more people have been arrested in connection with the death of a Leicester jeweller.

    A man, age 22, and a 19-year-old woman, both from Leicester, have been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and remain in police custody.

    Four men have already been charged over Ramniklal Jogiya's death.

    The 74-year-old did not return home after leaving his Belgrave Road shop on 24 January and his body was found the next morning in Gaulby Lane, Stoughton.
