    A caller from Nottinghamshire recently dialled 999 to tell police they were "stressed out" about the number of ants at their home.

    The complaint was highlighted by Nottinghamshire Police, external as an example of unnecessary calls its emergency response teams have to put up with.

    It said: "While the matter’s no doubt unpleasant for the caller, calls of this nature to our emergency 999 call handlers take our dedicated team away from dealing with genuine emergencies."

    Derbyshire firefighters are continuing to fight a moorland fire near the county's border with Greater Manchester.

    Crews from Derbyshire are working with colleagues from Greater Manchester to try to bring the blaze - which started on Saddleworth Moor more than a week ago - under control.

    Group manger Rob Taylor, from Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: "We've still got six fire appliances deployed this morning across approximately two kilometres of ground - so quite a large scale deployment in Derbyshire.

    "It's not flaming at the moment but there are a number of hot spots which are really difficult for crews to get at - they have to dig those out and apply large volumes of water to stop the fire's progress."

    The Blue Peter millennium time capsule that was buried beneath the Millennium Dome in 1998 has gone on display at the BBC in Leicester.

    The time capsule was due to be dug up in 2050 but builders accidentally unearthed it in February 2017.

    Inside were items like a tamagotchi, teletubbies and a football from the World Cup in France.

    Also inside are some letters, including one by Simon Yates from Loughborough.

    His letter made it into the time capsule after he entered a competition. He guessed that we would be using double decker trains by the year 2050.

    Well done to these junior doctors - the team from University Hospitals of Leicester won the BBC Two programme Britain’s Best Junior Doctors.

    Will Manning, Jon O’Doherty and James Richmond answered tough medical questions to beat Poole Hospital in the final of the show.

    The new quiz show was to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the NHS.

    On the subject of emergency services saving birds - this also happened in Nottingham over the weekend.

    A community protection officer carefully guided a family of ducks through the city centre and across tram tracks.

    The officer involved, Will Neave, has told us he did manage to get the ducks safely to the canal.

    Despite being "one hell of a mission" it was the highlight of his day.

    The match will take place in Leicester on Tuesday 11 September.

    Jubilee Square in Leicester has been decorated with dozens of wrought iron Forget Me Not flowers by a local hospice.

    LOROS said: "Each flower symbolises the life of a loved one no longer with us."

    The flowers can be brought by members of the public who will be able to take them home after they have been removed from display.

    The Forget Me Not flower appeal will be officially opened later today by Leicester's World Snooker champion Mark Selby and Leicester City Football Club legend Alan Birchenall.

    Nottingham Castle is now closed to visitors until 2020.

    An official "locking up" ceremony will take place today before work begins on a £30m revamp, which will include a new visitor centre.

    This is what 40 acres of wasteland in Nottingham could soon look like, according to plans submitted to the city council.

    An application for part of the Island site, which has been derelict for years, includes the city's first five-star hotel, a park, new homes, offices, a creative market and student accommodation.

    Conygar Investment Company bought the site, which is between Manvers Street in Sneinton and London Road, in 2016.

    In 2011 there were rumours it was going to be the site of a new Nottingham Forest stadium and the Eastside project in the late 1990s was a similar mixed-use plan.

    Christopher Ware, from the developers, said the site has seen "a number of false dawns" but these plans were "realistic".

    They hope, if approved, work could begin as early as next year.

    Two more Nottinghamshire fire crews are being sent to help tackle a huge moorland fire near Bolton.

    They'll join the one from the county which remained overnight at Winter Hill, where an area of around three square miles is still smouldering.

    Three crews from the county were there over weekend - two returned last night.

    The firefighters are from different stations across Nottinghamshire.

    A 72-year-old man is due to appear at Nottingham Magistrates' Court today charged over a stabbing in the city centre.

    A 38-year-old man, who was stabbed once in his side just after 16:00 on Saturday, is in a stable condition in hospital.

    A 24-year-old woman was also kicked during the incident outside the Old Dog and Patridge pub in Lower Parliament Street.

    Roy Lowe, of Rona Court in Bulwell has been charged with wounding with intent, possession of an offensive weapon, affray and assault by beating.

    Sad news this morning. A man has died after becoming trapped underwater at a weir on the River Derwent in Derby.

    Crews were called to an area known as Pebble Beach, on the Alvaston Canal Path at about 18:45 on Saturday after reports of three men in the water.

    Derbyshire Fire and Rescue said a 25-year-old man had "become trapped under the water on the weir".

    Station manager Paul Green said water rescue teams located him but "sadly the man has passed away".
