    The car went into the back of a lorry on the A38 north near Coxbench just after 13:00.

    Police have said there were no serious injuries and the driver was able to get out without help. Police have now left the scene and the area is clear from delays.

    A company in Somercotes has built a giant machine to help clear land mines.

    It's being hailed as a "revolutionary device" that will speed up clearance efforts - saving lives and preventing injuries.

    The £500,000 crushing machine has been made by MMD. The company is donating it to the Halo Trust, which plans to use it in Zimbabwe.

    A man has told police he was tied up and kidnapped by someone he met on a dating website, external.

    The 22-year-old said he had driven to Allestree Park to meet the man but was then grabbed by the throat and had his wrists bound before being forced into the passenger seat and driven away.

    The alleged kidnapper, described as white, in his 40s with a stocky build, drove to Duffield, stopped the car and ran away.

    Police have appealed for information.

    Major roadworks on Bostocks Lane, near Long Eaton and Sandiacre, have been postponed because the M1 "smart motorway" works are overrunning.

    The road would have been made one-way for up to two months.

  6. Leicester jeweller 'tortured for security codes'published at 13:56 British Summer Time 3 July 2018

    Four men have gone on trial charged with killing 74-year-old Leicester jeweller Ramniklal Jogiya.

    The prosecution told Birmingham Crown Court Mr Jogiya was kidnapped by the group after locking up his shop in Belgrave Road on 24 January and then tortured until he gave up the codes to turn off the burglar alarm and access the safe containing gold jewellery.

    The jury was told Mr Jogiya was dumped near the village of Stoughton after giving up the information and died "as a direct result of his injuries".

    The group then found themselves unable to get inside the safe due to a time delay feature that meant it couldn't be opened for 12 hours, even with the correct codes.

    Defendants in court

    Callan Reeve, 20, Charles Mcauley - known as Charlie Ward, also 20 - and Thomas Jervis, 24, have all pleaded guilty to kidnap and robbery but deny murder and manslaughter.

    Javon Roach, 30, has denied both murder or manslaughter and kidnap and robbery.

    The trial continues.

    As you can see from these photos, the tram involved in this morning's crash with a lorry near the Lace Market sustained some pretty major damage.

    It happened just after 11:00 but services have returned to normal now. NET says it has started an investigation.

    Police are dealing with this crash on the A6 near Mountsorrel, where a lorry has overturned at a roundabout.

    It happened at about 09:30. One man was injured, but refused to be treated by a paramedic called to the scene, according to East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS).

    This week marks the 150th anniversary of the opening of arguably Derby's most prominent bank building.

    The HSBC branch at the corner of St Peter's Street opened on 1 July 1868 as Derby Commercial Bank.

    This was then amalgamated with Midland Bank in 1890, which was in turn bought by HSBC in 1992 and renamed in 1999.

    Derby County forward Andreas Weimann has completed his move to Bristol City, external.

    Here's another view of the crash between a tram and a lorry near Lace Market in Nottingham.

    NET says services are continuing across other parts of the network and passengers can use their tram tickets on buses between Old Market Square and Nottingham Station.

    The operator also said it was investigating the cause of the crash.

    Three burglars burst into a house in Ravenshead last night claiming to be armed police, external.

    The trio punched a man at the Kirkby Road property in the face and threatened a woman with a knife while demanding money.

    The woman escaped the house and called the police. The group, two of whom had their faces covered, then left with three mobile phones and car keys.

    Nottinghamshire Police said they were following several lines of enquiry to find those responsible and have appealed for witnesses.
