Hundreds of schoolchildren have marched through the streets of Leicester as part of a project helping pupils connect with their local heritage - in this case the Leicester suffragettes.
They gathered by the statue of Alice Hawkins, the boot and shoe machinist who lived in the West End of Leicester - she was imprisoned many times in her fight to get the vote.
Leicester councillor Elaine Pantling, who dressed as Alice Hawkins for the day, was moved by the children's enthusiasm.
She said: "The speeches that the children gave were absolutely amazing. Alice Hawkins would have been so amazed by it all.
"I've got goosebumps thinking about all the things they said and they wrote those speeches themselves - very heartfelt."
