The vet decided the cat was in such a terrible state that he had to be put to sleep to prevent further suffering.

The cat was found in a blue and white pet carrier and was wearing a blue flea collar.

The RSPCA would like to hear from anyone with information on who his owner was.

    Quote Message

The poor cat was blinded by the pus in his eyes but as soon as we started wiping it away he began to show affection because he was obviously enjoying the relief. But then we found the eyes were in such a bad way they had actually sunken into the orbit of the skull. I also discovered multiple tumours in his mouth and he had teeth rotting. The poor cat was a bag of bones and it angers me that he was left this way untreated."

A family from Loughborough are trying to raise £50,000 for an operation to help their son walk.

Two-and-a-half-year-old Joey Patterson has cerebral palsy but doesn't meet the criteria to have the operation funded by the NHS.

The operation is called Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR) and works by reducing the muscle stiffness. Joey's mum Gemma Patterson claims this is his best chance of being able to stand alone and walk.

"He's such a happy boy but he's just had enough which is heartbreaking to see."

Shannon Bowley, form Nottingham, had the operation in 2014 when she was six and said "it's just wrong" that the operation isn't available to more children.

  18. Hundreds of thousands to be spent on 'supercouncil' planpublished at 11:19 British Summer Time 5 September 2018

    Kit Sandeman
    Local Democracy Reporter

Plans to create a new "supercouncil" for Nottinghamshire will cost at least £270,000 to draw up, it has been revealed.

A detailed plan is being put together at County Hall which would see all district and borough councils - as well as the county council - dissolved and a new authority formed.

Supporters say it would save money in the long-term and simplify council functions but critics believe it will cost more money than it saves and would erode local decision-making.

    County Hall

The county council has revealed it intends to spend more than a quarter of a million pounds drawing up a plan, known as a business case.

The cost estimate includes £50,000 for "independent financial validation", £190,000 for a consultation, and between £10,000 and £20,000 for legal advice.

A provisional timetable shows that a final vote on the scheme could be held in May next year after the consultation has run.

A cross-party group is also being set up to work on the plan.
