    More than 80% of residential burglaries in the East Midlands went unsolved in the 12 months to March, according to new figures from the Home Office.

    The figure was 84% in Leicestershire, 83% in Nottinghamshire and 81% in Derbyshire.

    The percentage of unsolved vehicle theft cases in the same period was 75% in Notts, 71% in Derbyshire and 70% in Leicestershire.

    Police chiefs have said increased demand and reduced officer numbers mean they have to prioritise cases where there is a realistic chance of prosecution.

    Leicestershire's Claire Lomas is about to set off on another one of her incredible charity challenges.

    The 38-year-old, who is paralysed from the chest down following a horse riding accident in 2007, has already completed the London Marathon thanks to the use of a bionic suit as well as using a hand-bike to cycle 400 miles between Nottingham and London.

    Now she's planning to ride a motorbike round nine British Superbike tracks, external, starting this weekend with Silverstone.

    She told BBC Radio Leicester: "It's certainly going to be a tough one. I never rode a motorbike before my accident so it's totally new to me really.

    "The only adaptation the bike needs is toe clips to stop my toes sliding forwards, a bit of velcro to stop my knees flapping and just a gear-shifter - so when you see me out on a bike it doesn't look different from anyone else.

    "I've done over 100mph so if you imagine being in a wheelchair, where everything slows down in my life to being able to have that amount of freedom, it's pretty amazing."

    There are major problems on the A42 this morning which is closed in both directions around junction 13 for Ashby and Coalville.

    The southbound side is closed after a van crashed on a bridge and fuel was spilt, while the north side has been shut due to a crash on a roundabout.

    Diversions have been put in place but there are severe delays in the area.

    A 17-year-old boy from Nottingham has been bailed after being arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of being a member of the banned far-right group National Action.

    A man and woman from Halifax have been charged with the same offence while police have been given extra time to question two men from Birmingham.

    Five teenage boys remain in police custody after being arrested on suspicion of murder following a fatal stabbing in Nottingham.

    The victim, who has yet to be named, died in hospital after being found in Hawksley Road, Hyson Green, with stab wounds to his chest at about 17:40 on Wednesday.

    Three 14-year-old boys have been questioned about the incident along with two other boys aged 16 and 17.
