    It's never nice being in hospital - especially when you're a child - but hopefully this should make things a little nicer for those receiving treatment at Leicester Royal Infirmary.

    A local firm has donated six electric cars to the hospital so that young patients can drive themselves to the operating theatre.

    A Derby woman has smashed her way through countless conkers to be crowned World Conker Champion 2018.

    Women's champion Karen Holloway, 32, beat men's champion Stuart Campbell, from Peterborough, to be declared the overall winner.

    About 250 competitors braved wet, cold and blustery conditions to take part in the event at Southwick, Northamptonshire.

    The world's largest collection of Formula 1 racers will be moving into storage for the foreseeable future.

    Last week it was announced that the Donington Collections would be closing on 5 November and the owner has shed light on its future.

    Kevin Wheatcroft confirmed that both the motor racing collection and his collection of World War Two vehicles will be going into storage while he considers their future.

    He added: "I have been associated with these historic machines all my adult life, having helped my late father to locate many of them, and it has been a privilege to help create and operate both one of Leicestershire's greatest attractions, and a piece of world motor sport history."

    Four people have been arrested on suspicion of supplying drugs after a "large amount" of substances, believed to be mainly heroin and crack cocaine, was seized by police in Newquay.

    Officers said the suspected drugs and more than £2,000 in cash was found when officers attended an address on Tower Road on Friday.

    Insp Dave Meredith, of Devon and Cornwall Police, said much of the crack and heroin was "wrapped up in individual 'wraps' which were ready to be dealt on the streets of Newquay".

    Peter Draper is 6ft 1ins tall and of slim build, with collar-length brown hair, blue eyes and a beard.

    Accessories chain Claire's is reported to be considering closing some of its UK stores.

    The Press Association said the High Street chain was talking to restructuring firms about "a number of options".

    The chain has more than 370 stores in the UK - including in Leicester, Lougborough, Nottingham and Derby.

    A doctor whose wife and children died after an arson attack on their Leicester house five years ago says building a mosque in their memory has given him "comfort".

    Dr Muhammad Taufiq, a neurosurgeon in Dublin, is building a €10m mosque, school and community centre in the Blanchardstown area of the city.

    His family had bought a derelict house months before they died in 2013 in the hope of one day redeveloping it.

    Dr Taufiq's wife Shehnila Taufiq, 47, was a scholar and cleric, and had moved to Leicester in 2006 with their daughter Zainab, 19, and sons Bilal, 17, and Jamal, 15 to carry out theological studies.

    After their deaths, Dr Taufiq said Leicester's Muslim community had supported him and had also donated money towards the development which will be named after his family.

    "My family had a great vision for this project and while I am working on it, it has given me so much comfort and happiness," he told BBC East Midlands Today.

    "I'm sure they are in paradise and looking at what's going on and will be happy.

    "Inshallah (God willing) it will be a beautiful project in the name of my family."

    Mobile speed camera vans are to be deployed, external to help enforce the 40mph speed limit put in place for roadworks on the A52.

    The move follows complaints many drivers have been ignoring the temporary limit since it was introduced earlier this year.

    Derbyshire Police said: "From today we will be increasing our monitoring of speed through the roadworks stretch of the A52 Brian Clough Way.

    "Our Casualty Reduction Enforcement Support Team will be randomly checking speeds on the road using mobile speed camera vans."

    A train carriage was damaged as it passed through Birstall at the weekend when stones were thrown at its window.

    The Great Central Railway (GCR) train was leaving Leicester on its way to Loughborough when it was hit by a stone at the Fielding Road crossing, which cracked the window.

    Mike Noble-Feller, who was on the train, said: "I heard an almighty smash and saw a group of lads on one side and a girl filming on the other. It's amazing what passes for entertainment these days.

    "Luckily nobody was sitting by the window at the time as someone could have been seriously hurt."

    GCR, a heritage railway company, has taken the carriage out of commission and believes the damage will cost £700 to repair.

    Police went to the crossing and spoke to a group of people but no arrests were made.

    A community police officer had a day to remember when she stepped in to calm down three alpacas that had been chased round their field by a dog, external.

    After arriving at the farm in Poolsbrook, Derbyshire, PCSO Janis Naylor agreed to feed the spooked animals while their owner checked them for injuries.

    She said: "The owner was keen to check them over, so I helped by feeding them so they would stand up and allow the owner to take a good look.

    "Fortunately they seemed OK but a little subdued by the incident but both the dog and alpaca owners shared their details in case there were any issues.”

    "It was lovely to meet Rupert, Jacob and Oswald. It’s not every day you get the pleasure of feeding some alpacas."
