    A Millwall football supporter who was accused of killing a rival fan has had charges of manslaughter against him dropped.

    Andrew Lewis, of Bromley, had already admitted his part in a fight outside Nottingham Forest's City Ground in which he punched 56-year-old Paul O'Donnell.

    The 50-year-old previously pleaded guilty to the charge of inflicting grievous bodily harm before a Friday night fixture on August 4.

    Prosecutor Miranda Moore QC told Leicester Crown Court doctors could not definitively say the injuries caused by Lewis were directly responsible for Mr O'Donnell's death.

    As a result, she said no evidence would be offered on the manslaughter charge by the prosecution and judge.

    Lewis is due to be sentenced for GBH later today.

    The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) has named the two prisoners who died at HMP Stocken near Oakham earlier this month.

    David Saxton aged 56 and Patrick Kettle aged 39 both died in custody on 6 October 2018.

    The MoJ said the deaths will be investigated by the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman.

    A woman who was killed in a crash on the A447 yesterday has been named.

    Police and ambulance service were called after a silver Ford KA crashed at 01:20, where Lucy Sandford-James, 22 from Kirkby Mallory, was pronounced dead at the scene.

    The crash occurred close to Hall Lane junction in Osbaston, Leicestershire.

    The unpleasant shed load of chicken offal is still causing headaches on the A453 northbound near East Midlands Airport.

    The road has now been completely closed, making it difficult to access East Midlands Parkway railway station.

    A diversion is in place but people travelling to the airport have been advised to allow extra time due to the disruption.

    Highways England said the clear-up operation was "going well".

    A Labour candidate has hit out at proposals to sell Beeston town hall to a church.

    Ed Lyons, who was Labour candidate for Beeston North ward last year, says the Cornerstone Church's views on homosexuality mean they are not suitable to take over the running of the building as a community asset.

    He said: "We are saying that there is not a community interest or a community benefit in this purchase because of their views."

    On the claims about attitudes to the LGBT community, the church says its approach is one of seeking to be able to respectfully hold different views, whilst working in order to provide benefit to others.

    Broxtowe Borough Council will make the decision this evening, with Cornerstone church the preferred bidder. The church said they will run the hall as an asset for the whole community.

    A 20-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of robbing three elderly women in the Sutton-in-Ashfield area.

    The first incident happened in Woods Hill, Sutton-in-Ashfield on 10 October when an 86-year-old woman was robbed in the street.

    At around 17:20 on Saturday, a 78-year-old woman was robbed in an alleyway between Cowpes Close and Stoneyford Road.

    The following day a 68-year-old woman was pulled to the ground after trying to keep hold of her bags during the incident in Main Road, Jacksdale, at around 16:00 on Sunday.

    The man was arrested on suspicion of the robberies and an unrelated sexual offence.

    Erewash Borough Council has rubbished rumours this year's Ilkeston's Charter Fair has been cancelled.

    The funfair is due to open at 18:00 with the full fair opening tomorrow.

    A community Facebook page for the town had published a rumour it was not going ahead but the borough council responded by posting on Twitter: "Don't believe everything you read on Spotted".

    Four schools have closed due to water supply problems, external in Ilkeston and Kirk Hallam.

    Kirk Hallam Community Academy (pictured), St John Houghton Catholic Voluntary Academy, Ladywood Primary School and Dallimore Primary School have all sent pupils home due to the ongoing issue.

    Mark Watts, head teacher of Kirk Hallam Community Academy, said the problems had been caused by a burst water pipe which he had been told should be fixed later today.

    Severn Trent said: "We're aware of a problem on our network which is causing supply interruptions to customers in the Ilkeston area.

    "We have a team on site at the minute trying to get it sorted and get customers supplies restored as quickly as we can. We're sorry for any inconvenience this may cause."

    The bodies of two men have been found on separate wings of HMP Stocken near Oakham.

    Leicestershire Police said the men were found on the morning of Saturday 6 October and that the deaths are currently being treated as "unexplained".

    The 54-year-old was arrested yesterday on suspicion of indecent assaults.

    A retired Nottinghamshire children's services manager is giving evidence at the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse.

    Margaret Stimpson has accepted the county council knew by the early 1990s “there was a real issue” of children being abused by their foster carers.

    She said there was a girl authorities believed was being sexually abused by her foster father but he wasn’t prosecuted due to a lack of evidence. A case conference allowed contact to continue, and recommended that he was “closely supervised”.

    Ms Stimpson told the inquiry she was concerned he was allowed to stay in his job as despite insufficient evidence to prosecute, she had “no reason to doubt the girl’s evidence”.

    She said there was probably not enough consideration of the risk of sexual abuse by foster parents.

    “I began to realise, as time went by, you do have to believe the unbelievable and think the unthinkable when it comes to dealing with people and potential perpetrators," she said.

    A body has been found inside a burning car in the Carlton area of Nottinghamshire.

    Nottinghamshire Police said they were called to Garden City by the fire service, who were extinguishing the blaze early this morning.

    An investigation into the "unexplained death" is now ongoing. Police are trying to establish who the person and have asked anyone with any information to call 101.

    Work to clear a spillage of chicken guts on the A453 is under way.

    The northbound lane between the M1, A50, A6 junction and the A52 remains closed while the clean-up takes place.

    Highways England reported earlier a shed load of approximately 40 tonnes of chicken offal had spilled on to the carriageway.

    Firefighters have been tackling a blaze at a barn in the Markeaton area of Derby since about 08:00 this morning.

    This video was recorded by Keith Taynton, who was passing at the time.

    There are currently five engines at the scene and police have closed Markeaton Lane.

    Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed the barn is full of hay and there were no people or animals inside.

    An 88-year-old woman has died several days after her purse was stolen from her home in Nottingham.

    The burglary happened on Bestwood Road in the Bulwell area on 29 September. A person forced their way into Audrey Whitchurch's home, searched her house and left with her purse.

    Police said she wasn't injured during the burglary but she has since died in hospital.

    The Nottingham Post said she died on Sunday, external during a weekend away with family 15 days after the theft.

    The force have said the investigation is still "very much active" and they are still trying to identify the offender by speaking to local people and looking through CCTV footage.
