    Nottinghamshire Police held a remembrance service at the force headquarters in Arnold this morning.

    The short service, which was attended by officers, staff and volunteers, included a reading by Assistant Chief Constable Steve Cooper of the poem In Flanders Fields.

  2. Volunteers help to move thousands of crash tributespublished at 14:00 Greenwich Mean Time 9 November 2018

    Staff and volunteers have spent the past few hours moving thousands of tributes from the front of the King Power Stadium to a designated memorial site close to where the club owner's helicopter crashed almost two weeks ago.

    Some of the tributes will be used for a pitchside display at tomorrow's game against Burnley.

    Fans attending the game will also be given commemorative scarves, pin badges, clappers and programmes while the players will wear shirts with Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha's named embroidered on.

  3. Loughborough Fair acid attack message 'a hoax'published at 13:47 Greenwich Mean Time 9 November 2018

    An acid attack rumoured to take place at Loughborough Fair tonight - and which was sent out by schools as an alert message - was incorrect, it's been revealed.

    Headteacher of De Lisle College, John Pye, said that the school had received misinformation about the proposed acid attack.

    That led to them sending out an alert message urging students to stay away from the fair.

    Mr Pye said: "The police told me the information was incorrect and have apologised."

    Loughborough College have also released a statement saying the message was a "hoax".

    Leicestershire Police said it's aware of concerns - included rumours of stabbings - since the fair was opened on Wednesday.

    "We are not telling people it is unsafe to attend," the force said in a statement., external

    "To date there have been no reports of any violent incidents at the fair."

    Two men have been arrested, external following an armed robbery in Leicester earlier this year.

    Staff at an undisclosed business in Barkby Road were allegedly assaulted and threatened with what was believed to be a handgun during the early-morning incident on 30 August.

    No-one was seriously hurt and no money was taken.

    Two men from Leicester, aged 26 and 27, have now been questioned on suspicion of robbery and released while investigations continue.

    Retailer Next has reached a settlement with the fashion brand Scamp & Dude over claims it copied the smaller firm's designs.

    The Enderby-based firm said it would pay the profits from any sales of a contested design to the label, which will donate the proceeds to charity.

    In September, the label's founder accused Next of a "blatant infringement" of an animal print top for children featuring a lightning bolt logo or "Superpower button" intended to give children strength and courage when they're feeling vulnerable.

    Next said it had reached an agreement with the label and would "pay the profits from sales of the design in issue to Scamp & Dude, who will use the profits for charitable purposes, including making donations to two charities".

    "Next will also be donating all of the remaining clothing of this design to a charity for distribution to children in need overseas."

    Police have renewed their appeal for information about a 16-year-old who's been missing from Nottingham for nearly three weeks.

    Connor Cooper disappeared from the Lenton area at about 17:00 on 21 October.

    In the week after going missing he was spotted in South Yorkshire and Lenton but his current whereabouts are not known.

    A plan for how to deal with severe weather on Nottinghamshire's roads has been approved after concerns were raised about the county council's response last winter.

    According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, plans include gritters being on 24-hour standby from now until March and for a new high-tech weather station to open in Mapperley Plains.

    This station is expected to be live from January and will help improve the accuracy of forecasting and the monitoring of road surface conditions in the Gedling area.

    Councillor John Cottee, said: "Winter maintenance is a high priority for us at Nottinghamshire County Council.

    "Behind the scenes we plan for it all year round so we're ready to cope with whatever the winter weather throws at us."

    Nottinghamshire already has eight weather stations providing localised information, with one in Costock currently being upgraded.

    A team of volunteers have been working hard all morning setting up the new memorial to Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha at the King Power Stadium.

    Tributes have been left at the stadium every day since the helicopter crash which killed Mr Vichai and four others two weeks ago tomorrow, which are being moved to a new location near the crash site ahead of the game against Burnley.

    Jamie Vardy's "Khun Vichai" embroidered boots have sold at auction for more than £9,000.

    They were auctioned off to raise money for Leicester City's newly named Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha Foundation.

    A pair of Kasper Schmeichel’s gloves also sold for £4,000 and the chance to watch Saturday's match against Burnley in Vardy’s executive box raised £6,700.

    Under its old name, the Foxes Foundation, money raised was donated to Leicester Hospitals Charity and hospices LOROS and Rainbows .

    Trading Standards officers in Nottinghamshire have seized more than £1.24m worth of illicit tobacco products so far this year - that's a 24-fold increase on the same period last year.

    The county council said 81 shops, homes, vehicles and storage facilities have been inspected over this time resulting in the seizure of about 75,000 counterfeit cigarettes and over 60,000 illicit tobacco pouches.

    An illegal manufacturing plant, producing large amounts of tobacco leaf, was also discovered.

    Since January the council has made 10 successful prosecutions.

    A major road near Sheffield will be closed on Saturday, as police investigate a fatal crash.

    The A57 Snake Pass route from Glossop to Ladybower will be closed for four hours between 10:00 and 14:00, as police carry out an investigation following a crash earlier this month.

    The stretch of road from Sheffield to Ladybower will be unaffected, according to police.

    It's 10 years tomorrow since the death of six-year-old Newark boy Joel Picker-Spence after a battle with leukemia.

    His mother, Anne-Marie Picker-Spence, says they will be marking the anniversary with a gathering of family and some of Joel's friends.

    She added: "He touched so many people.

    "At the time we were quite shocked by all the letters and the cards that we got for Joel."

    His legacy continued after his death with hundreds signing up to the bone marrow register at a special event organised by BBC Radio Nottingham and the Anthony Nolan Trust.

    Nottingham has been highlighted in a new report about the number of shops closing on the UK high street this year.

    According to the accountancy firm PwC 14 shops are closing a day as the UK faces its toughest trading climate in five years.

    It said fashion and electrical stores had suffered most as customers did more shopping online, with restaurants and pubs also shutting their doors as fewer people go out to eat or drink.

    Nottingham is one of the worst hit areas with 35 stores closing in the first six months of 2018.

    Others include Leeds, Newcastle and Reading.

    East Midlands Airport has illuminated a Remembrance Day message on its control tower.

    The site of the airport has roots in military aviation. It was used as a basic field strip during World War One then became RAF Castle Donington during World War Two.

    Crews from RAF Castle Donington operated special flights to drop propaganda leaflets over occupied Europe.

    East Midlands Airport's managing director, Karen Smart, said: "It is fitting that we use the ATC tower, which is a regional landmark, to remember those who sacrificed their lives during conflict.”

    Today is the final day of Khun Vichai’s week long service and his body will be lying in state for at least 100 days.

    Yesterday Leicester manager Claude Puel said preparation for their game against Burnley tomorrow had not been easy.

    Players travelled back from Bangkok on Monday and have only managed a light training session after being given time to recover.

    He said: "It is not easy to prepare for this game but I think this togetherness between ourselves is a good feeling and it will give us fantastic energy and strength."

    The fire service is currently damping down an industrial building in Church Gresley following a fire this morning.

    An investigation into the cause of the fire in Pool Street will begin once the building is safe to enter.

    Nine crews attended the blaze at 03:59 this morning and three remain at the site.

    No road closures are in place though the fire service has urged people to avoid Pool Street.
