A failed bid to takeover shopping centre owner Intu "will not affect" proposals to redevelop Nottingham's ailing Broadmarsh Centre.

Shares in the firm have plunged after the collapse of the £2.8bn takeover bid, which included Saudi Arabian firm Olayan and Canada's Brookfield Property.

However, an Intu spokeswoman said the failure would not affect the proposed £250m redevelopment of the Nottingham shopping centre.

She was diagnosed with cancer in 2011 and given six months to live but she defied the odds and fought on for another seven years.

She died earlier this year aged 37.
