    A 92-year-old has been left "very shaken" after waking up to see an intruder walk past him while making off with his cash.

    The pensioner was asleep on his sofa in Carlton when the burglar entered his home on Saturday at about 19:25, police said.

    They are now appealing for witnesses.

    A "medical professional" police believed held vital information about a fatal crash in Leicestershire has come forwards after a social media appeal.

    The woman stopped to help officers with a crash on the A46 in August but left before they could get her details.

    The crash, on the northbound side between the slip road for the A6 and Wanlip, near Birstall, left a 50-year-old woman and a 49-year-old man dead.

    A 26-year-old man, from Northampton, was arrested on suspicion of driving with excess alcohol and causing death by dangerous driving and released under investigation.

    Police shared her image in a bid to trace her on Monday.

    Meanwhile Patrick McLoughlin, Conservative MP for Derbyshire Dales, has called on Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn to come back to the Chamber to apologise for apparently muttering "stupid woman" at the Prime Minister after his last question.

    Anna Soubry weighed in to say if one of her male colleagues had done the same he would have taken action immediately.

    "Women are fed up of being abused by men," she said.

    Conservative MP for South Leicestershire, Alberto Costa, has asked Theresa May if, in the event of a no-deal Brexit, she will get a multilateral agreement on UK and EU citizens' rights

    The PM said they will remain on "broadly" the same terms as now.

    A man who threatened two boys in a park while carrying a knife has been jailed for almost two years.

    Owen Bush threatened the boys and demanded their bikes before pulling out a knife from his waistband back in June in Bilsthorpe, Nottinghamshire, police said.

    The 22-year-old, of Bilsthorpe, was sentenced to a total of 23 months at Nottingham Crown Court yesterday after pleading guilty to affray and two counts of possessing a bladed article.

    Nottingham Trent University has said its thoughts are with the families of two students killed in a car crash in South Yorkshire.

    A book of condolence has been opened at the university.

    Philippa Bertram (left), 20 and Rebecca Ward, 22, were killed when their Fiat 500 was in collision with a Mini Cooper on the A628 Woodhead Pass on Saturday.

    They were in their final year studying Fashion Marketing and Branding.

    A Derby radio station has been fined £10,000 after a watchdog found it guilty of broadcasting hate speech, external.

    Ofcom said a presenter on Normanton-based Radio Ikhlas made several abusive and derogatory statements about the Ahmadiyya community during a phone-in programme last year.

    The watchdog said: "Under the Broadcasting Code, licensees must not broadcast material which contains uncontextualised hate speech and abusive treatment of groups, religions or communities."

    As well as the fine, the station will have to read out an on-air statement about Ofcom's decision.

    Radio Ikhlas said it "deeply regretted if anyone had been hurt or upset by the broadcast" and added the presenter had been suspended.

    The father of a vulnerable Derby County fan who was verbally abused in a video circulated on social media will be donating money to a charity which cares for his son.

    The footage starts with an unknown man telling the supporter he should not be wearing the team's shirt in rival city Nottingham.

    He is then made to repeat an offensive nickname used by opposing fans.

    Stuart Harrison said the family has had money donated to buy a football kit for his 23-year-old son, Charlie, but they will also be donating some of the money to Derby charity Umbrella, who look after Charlie when he's not at college.

    The father said he does not want his son to see the footage, which he says was filmed over a year ago but has only just surfaced.

    Nottingham Forest said it was "sickened" by the video and "condemns this conduct in absolute terms".

    Police are treating the incident as a hate crime.

    A watch bought in Nottingham in the 1970s for about £300 has sold for £51,100 at an auction, external.

    The 1960s steel Tudor Oysterdate wristwatch smashed its £3,000 estimate after a global bidding war ended with it being snapped up by a French collector.

    The anonymous seller, from Sutton-in-Ashfield, said: "Never in my wildest dreams did I expect it to fetch that kind of money."

    Hansons Auctioneers said the Swiss watch brand Tudor is related to Rolex and rare examples were highly sought after.

    Adrian Rathbone, the firm's watch specialist, said: "Rare watches, especially early Rolex models, are a major success story of recent years.

    "Desirable watches are likened to rare cars and wealthy collectors will stop at nothing to acquire the best examples for their collection.”

    A British rower from Nottingham who suffered serious injuries when she fell down some stairs in the US is to return to the UK.

    Anna Thornton was in a coma after the fall in Seattle, where she had been studying, last month. A fundraising page set up for her said she suffered a traumatic brain injury.

    British Rowing said the 21-year-old will return to the city this week, external for continued treatment.
