    The potential economic benefits of opening a passenger rail line between Sutton and Toton could be explored by Ashfield District Council.

    Councillors are discussing whether to carry out a feasibility study into opening the Maid Marian Line, which currently only carries freight.

    The idea has also been suggested by the company behind HS2, which it plans to build through Toton.

    Maintenance work to the A60 in Nottinghamshire will result in up to a 30-mile detour for lorries over the next few weeks.

    It is expected that the roadworks through Bunny, a major route in and out of Nottingham, will last for six weeks.

    The road will be closed from 18:00 to 06:00 and diversions will see lorries having to take the detour to Saxondale Island and down the A46, while cars will be able to use smaller roads nearby.

    Bunny Parish Council chairman Graham Norbury said: "We've been pressing for the resurfacing for a number of years but the downside is the trepidation about the disruption.

    "My advice to anyone who uses it to get to work is to try and find an alternative route in the morning or evening."

    Labour MP Liz Kendall has said it is "essential" for her party to remain inclusive if they are to win elections following the resignation of seven MPs this morning.

    Nottingham East MP Chris Leslie left the party this morning, along with Chuka Umunna, Luciana Berger, Angela Smith, Mike Gapes, Gavin Shuker and Ann Coffey, over concerns about the leadership of Jeremy Corbyn.

    The Leicester West MP said: "It’s a very sad day when good colleagues decide to leave the Labour Party.

    "I remain of the view that Labour is the best vehicle for achieving equality and social justice that this country has ever known.

    "However, it is essential that we remain a broad church if we are to win elections and transform the lives of people I came into politics to represent."

    The daughter of a woman who was murdered by her boyfriend at a flat in Measham has paid tribute to her mother.

    Tracey Evans was killed on her 52nd birthday by Jeremy Clarke at the flat they shared after a night out.

    Clarke was today found guilty of her murder at Leicester Crown Court.

    Jodie Winterson said nothing will make up for the abuse her mother suffered at the hands of her partner.

    In a statement issued by police, she said: "Myself and the rest of my family have endured a very difficult six months since my mum was so brutally taken and we are relieved the trial process is now over.

    "I would like to take this opportunity to say a few words about my mum who will be so dearly missed by so many.

    "She will always be remembered for her beautiful smile, her kindness and her complete selflessness.

    "No conviction or prison sentence will ever be enough for the physical, mental, financial and emotional abuse Jeremy Clarke subjected my mum to during their relationship, or the way he so brutally murdered her on her birthday.

    "Jeremy’s actions will never be justified. His total lack of remorse for any of his actions are those only of a controlling bully and a cold, callous murderer."

    Clarke will be sentenced tomorrow.

    A man who slit his girlfriend’s throat at a flat in Measham has been found guilty of her murder.

    Police said Tracey Evans was killed on her 52nd birthday after a night out celebrating with Jeremy Clarke.

    The couple left a local pub separately on Sunday 5 August 2018 and returned to the home they shared on High Street.

    After the murder, police said the 55-year-old called his daughter to confess, and said he planned to end his own life to save himself from prison.

    Officers were called to the flat,where Ms Evans was found with a 24cm knife wound across her neck.

    When arrested, police said Clarke confessed to the killing, but later claimed to have suffered from a hypoglycaemic attack and had no recollection of committing the crime.

    A jury at Leicester Crown Court found him guilty of murder - he'll be sentenced tomorrow.

    BDO has been appointed as administrator to Flybmi.

    The East Midlands Airport-based carrier operated 17 aircraft on routes to 25 European cities.

    All flights were cancelled when the company ceased to trade on Saturday after going into administration.

    Tony Nygate, BDO business restructuring partner, said: "We are taking all necessary steps to ensure customers, staff and suppliers are supported through the administration process.

    "Our job is to maximise recoveries and minimise distress for all parties, acting as smoothly and swiftly as possible."

    Volunteer bikers are expecting to save the NHS in Nottinghamshire around £60,000 this year.

    Notts Blood Bikes have about 100 volunteers who transport blood between the county's hospitals at evenings and weekends when the hospital's own transport service doesn't run. Without the volunteers the hospitals rely on courier taxis.

    John Devlin is one of the volunteers. He said: "Every month our workload increases as new departments get to hear about within the NHS hospitals and we take on different kinds of work.

    "We're increasing our savings to the NHS - approximately £60,000, which is about double what we were saving last year."

    A sick horse was thrown out of a trailer and left to die on a Nottinghamshire country road, say police.

    A passing motorist saw the young horse being thrown from a sheep trailer, which was being towed by a van, on Ricketts Lane, near Blidworth, on 14 February

    Rescuers tried to save the animal, nicknamed "Brave Valentine", but it died the next day.

    Valentine was one of four horses found dumped, dead or dying, across the county in the last four days, according to Nottinghamshire Police.

    Over the weekend, a walker came across a dead horse in a lay-by near Beckingham, and two underweight foals were found abandoned by the side of the road near Collingham.

    Police believe the same white van and livestock trailer may have been used in each case, and they are appealing for help tracking down the owner.

    Young people in Leicester are conducting an investigation into the city's mental health services.

    A committee from the Young People's Council is gathering evidence by speaking to patients, parents, and health professionals.

    They'll be finding out what kind of support young people can expect, before reporting their findings to local decision makers.

    The Young People's Council is an initiative supported by Leicester City Council to get more younger people involved with democracy.

    A war hero from Derbyshire who helped to create a smokescreen to stop the Germans spotting the approaching Allied fleet during the D-Day landings has been awarded France's highest military honour, external.

    Herbert Thorpe, now 95, was part of 21-man crew which set up the famous assault on Normandy in 1944.

    The Legion d'Honneur (Legion of Honour) medal was sent to his Long Eaton home in the post but Erewash Borough Council is planning an official ceremony to celebrate the award.

    Mr Thorpe said: "We more or less took the armada across on D-Day. Our job was to protect the fleet. I could fire every gun, every torpedo, everything."

    After the war Mr Thorpe went on to work for a gas company and was also a professional dancer with his late wife, Irene.

    A letter from the French Embassy said: "We owe our freedom and security to your dedication, because you were ready to risk your life."
