    Toby Perkins, Labour MP for Chesterfield, has tweeted that he sympathises with some of the concerns of the seven MPs who left the party today.

    He added that he thought the split was a "serious moment" which should not be "celebrated or ignored."

    Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has issued a statement after seven Labour MPs announced their resignation from the party this morning.

    In a statement, Mr Corbyn said: "I am disappointed that these MPs have felt unable to continue to work together for the Labour policies that inspired millions at the last election and saw us increase our vote by the largest share since 1945.

    "Labour won people over on a programme for the many not the few - redistributing wealth and power, taking vital resources into public ownership, investing in every region and nation, and tackling climate change."

    Chris Leslie, MP for Nottingham East, is one of the seven who have resigned to form the new Independent Group.

    Chris Leslie said that Labour has been "hijacked" by the "hard left" after announcing his resignation from the party this morning.

    Speaking at a press conference in Westminster, Mr Leslie said: "Our values haven’t changed, we absolutely oppose this con government and desperately want an alternative which tackles the barriers of poverty and discrimination by extending opportunity for all.

    "But British politics is well and truly broken and in all conscience we can no longer knock on doors and support a government led by Jeremy Corbyn or the team around him."

    Mr Leslie has been MP for Nottingham East since 2010, having previously been elected in Shipley, West Yorkshire.

    Chris Leslie, MP for Nottingham East, has resigned from the Labour Party.

    He will sit as part of a new group of seven independent MPs, alongside Luciana Berger, Ann Coffey, Chuka Umunna, Gavin Shuker, Mike Gapes and Angela Smith.

    The move is in protest at Jeremy Corbyn's approach to Brexit and anti-Semitism.

    Speaking at a press conference this morning, Mr Leslie said: "This has not been an easy decision for any of us.

    "We’ve all been Labour MPs for very many years. In my case, three decades.

    "But the Labour Party we joined, campaigned for and believed in is no longer today’s Labour Party."

    A union is seeking "urgent" talks with administrators over the future of Flybmi after the airline filed for administration.

    Unite, which has around 40 members working for the East Midlands Airport-based airline, wants "to ensure that the workforce are not left out of pocket and that their wages are paid in full".

    Unite regional secretary for the East Midlands, Paresh Patel, said: "This is a terrible blow for the airline’s workforce and their families, as well as the East Midlands economy.

    "We will be giving maximum support to our members who work for the airline across the UK at this very difficult time for them."

    The airline, which operated 17 aircraft flying to 25 cities, said Brexit uncertainty and rises in fuel and carbon costs led to it filing for administration on Saturday.

    The body of a man has been discovered at a property in Mansfield Woodhouse.

    He was found in Slant Lane yesterday morning. Police remain at the scene.

    His death is currently being treated as unexplained and formal identification is yet to take place.

    A couple from Derbyshire said it was lucky no-one was killed or seriously injured when a Jaguar F-Type crashed into their house at the weekend.

    Large stones were sent flying into the property, in Chesterfield Road, Oakerthorpe, when the crash happened on Saturday afternoon.

    Thankfully nobody was home at the time and the sports car's driver was uninjured.

    Home owner Tim Lomas said: "It’s very lucky we were both out when it happened. If anyone had been in the kitchen they’d have been killed with the big coping stones that came flying through.

    “We just feel lucky. The insurance should sort everything out with the house."

    A world heritage group is considering whether plans for Derby's tallest building, The Landmark, should go ahead.

    UNESCO in Paris is looking at the plans after Historic England objected to the building based on its proximity to Derwent Valley Mills, a world heritage site.

    The block would be the city's highest residential building at 17 storeys.

    Two men have been arrested following a suspected break-in at Derby's Silk Mill.

    Police were called to the museum, which is currently being redeveloped, at 00:20.

    The men were arrested on suspicion of burglary and taken into custody.

    Several gold coins and a painting have been stolen from a house in Ollerton.

    Police have released images of some of the stolen coins, external, which were taken from a house in Sherwood Drive between 06:00 on 28 January and 19:00 on 1 February.
