    An 80-year-old man has died in hospital, external following a two-car crash in Cotmanhay at the weekend.

    Police said George Phillis, from Ilkeston, died this morning after an Audi A3 and a Honda Civic collided in Skeavingtons Lane at about 09:15 on Saturday.

    A 30-year-old has been arrested and released while investigations continue.

    The NHS in Derbyshire is under pressure to replace fewer hips and knees, as part of plans to make savings.

    Respiratory conditions and mental health services are also likely to be shaken up.

    In the last year, NHS commissioners have had to find savings of £51m and even those cuts don't balance the books.

    Each of the next four years will see even larger savings targets. In all, more than a quarter of a billion pounds of efficiencies are required.

    Mental health, and heart and lung conditions are all to be prioritised for change in the next year.

    The biggest area targeted for savings is musculoskeletal medicine, with Derbyshire being asked to replace fewer knees and fewer hips.

    A Leicestershire police officer has been elected as Vice President of the newly formed National Sikh Police Association UK (NSPA).

    He said: “'I am humbled and honoured to take on the role of Vice President of the newly formed National Sikh Police Association UK.

    A major scheme has begun to redevelop Cotgrave town, external centre.

    The plans involve demolishing the police station, health centre and former library to create a new public space and car parking.

    It's part of a wider project costing Rushcliffe Borough Council more than £10m and is due for completion in the summer.

    A motorcycle rider is in a critical condition in hospital after a crash on the A52 in Bottesford.

    The bike collided with a Seat Ibiza car at the crossroads between the A52 and Belvoir Road at about 18:00 on Friday 22 February.

    The man on the bike sustained serious injuries and was taken to the Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham but no-one else was injured.

    Police investigating the crash are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time and may have witnessed the crash to contact them.

    An 80-year-old has died after a 4x4 crashed in to a bollard in Netherfield.

    The crash on the Colwick Loop Road near the Victoria Retail Park happened last Monday but the man died on Sunday morning at the QMC.

    Scientists from the University of Nottingham are leading a new clinical trial, into the best way to feed premature babies.

    The £1.6m study will involve about 2,000 subjects over the next four and a half years.

    It's hoped the research could eventually allow them to be given full milk sooner - increasing their nutrient intake, and freeing up valuable cots in neonatal units.

    People from a Leicestershire village say they are shocked after lead was stolen from their church roof, just months after it was restored.

    The church in Goadby Marwood, near Melton Mowbray, dates back to the 12th century, and is Grade I listed.

    It's thought thieves stole the lead from the roof over several nights last week, with repairs expected to cost about £100,000.

    The parents of a student who took her own life are facing a £70,000 bill for her inquest because they cannot get legal aid funding.

    Natasha Abrahart, 20, from West Bridgford in Nottinghamshire, was studying physics at the University of Bristol when she died on 30 April 2018.

    Robert and Margaret Abrahart are joining a campaign at Westminster today over legal aid, which would help them pay for it.

    They believe they need to find answers for themselves and so this doesn't happen to others. So far they have raised £20,000 through crowdfunding for the inquest in May.

    Four fans were arrested last night at Forest's home clash against Derby County.

    About 29,000 people flocked to the City Ground last night to watch Forest beat their rivals 1-0.

    Police had warned fans they would be monitored with drones but they said they were "pleased to report the evening passed largely without incident".

    But by 22:30 after the match they had arrested four males in connection with incidents reported before, during and after the game. There were others reported to them which they said they will follow up in the coming days.
