    Notts County owner and chairman Alan Hardy has announced he will not be attending tomorrow's home game against Port Vale.

    It comes after the football club was issued a winding-up petition by HM Revenue and Customs over an unpaid tax bill, understood to be £200,000.

    Mr Hardy's interior design company was also placed in administration.

    In a statement on the club website, external, Mr Hardy said he would not be attending to allow the players and staff to "fully focus on the match without any distractions".

    He said: "The reaction to recent developments has led me to surmise that my attendance on Saturday would be counter-productive."

    Police have named a man whose death in Derby earlier this week sparked a murder investigation.

    Lance Martin, 24, was found injured in St Thomas Road, Normanton, at about 01:00 yesterday and died in hospital.

    Five people - two men aged 30 and 42, two women aged 21 and 23, and a 16-year-old boy - remain in custody after being arrested yesterday on suspicion of murder.

    Police have appealed for witnesses and information.

    An 18-year-old driver has been sentenced for causing a crash that led to a bus smashing into a house.

    Brett Woodhouse was driving the Ford Fiesta when it hit the bus in Main Road, Radcliffe-on-Trent, on 26 January.

    The bus was carrying 15 passengers but no-one was seriously injured.

    Woodhouse, of Loughborough Road, West Bridgford, admitted failing to stop after an accident, failing to stop for police and driving without a licence or third party insurance.

    He was ordered to carry out 100 hours of community work, fined £100 and given a 12-month driving ban.

    Brendan Rodgers has been responding to the reaction of Celtic fans following his decision to leave the club midway through the season to join Leicester City.

    Rodgers won all seven domestic trophies on offer during his time at Celtic and he left the defending champions top of the Scottish Premiership, eight points ahead of rivals Rangers.

    He said: "I’ve seen some of what’s been said and read. Celtic supporters will hurt - I understand how they feel. They’re hurt and are maybe a bit worried.

    "But what we’ve put in place in the last three years will stabilise the club moving forward.

    "As hard as it was to make the decision, I knew that the improvements we made would allow the club's success to continue."

    Derbyshire Police say they are investigating after hand-drawn posters attacking Chris Williamson were stuck to the front of his constituency office.

    The posters accuse the suspended Derby North MP of being a "systematic anti-Semite and Jew-baiter" - something he has vociferously denied.

    Nigel Burton-York, 51, disappeared after leaving his home in Burton on a grey bike yesterday morning.

    Two men were arrested following a police chase in Nottingham last night, external.

    A 38-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop, dangerous driving, driving whilst disqualified, driving with no insurance and possession of cannabis with intent to supply.

    A 30-year-old was arrested on suspicion of vehicle theft and possession of cannabis with intent to supply.

    The Britannia Hotel in Nottingham has become the first in the county to be issued with a child sexual exploitation warning notice by the police.

    Between May 2017 and December 2018, 16 police incidents reported at the hotel involved children.

    Some of those were found by police to be vulnerable, at risk of sexual exploitation and had been missing from home.

    Nottinghamshire Police say they issued the notice partly because the hotel didn't co-operate in the way they expected - though the force says that has since changed.

    The notice means police can now demand to see the names and addresses of guests staying at the hotel, in St James' Street.

    The Britannia Hotel Group says it's working with police and the force says there is no risk for the general public staying at the hotel.

    New figures show rail passenger journeys in the East Midlands have increased every year for 23 years.

    The only other place in the UK to achieve this is Wales.

    The figures from the Office of Rail and Road , externalshow there were 35.6m train journeys made in the region between 2017/18.

    More than 11 million of those journeys started or ended in Nottinghamshire or Derbyshire. Journeys to and from Leicestershire and Rutland actually went down by 1.5%.

    Although the numbers have been welcomed, a group of transport planners claim there's still more work to do to improve services.

    Midlands Connect wants more services between the East and West Midlands, claiming 80% of journeys between East Midlands cities and Birmingham are done by road.

    A police investigation has been launched into an incident in which a patient choked on bread while in a Derby mental health unit.

    The incident occurred at Cubley Court, based at Kingsway Hospital. It is not clear whether the patient died as a result of the incident or not.

    A short summary of the case was published in papers for a meeting of the governing bodies for the four Derbyshire Clinical Commissioning Groups.

    The papers says: "A police investigation has begun and the statutory adult safeguarding criteria has been applied and met.

    "Police have taken some care records and will be looking to interview staff."

    The report says that the representatives from the Derbyshire Clinical Commissioning Group and the trust visited both Cubley Court and the Radbourne Unit on 25 January for "further assurance".

    A "strategy meeting" has been arranged between the authorities to discuss the issue.

    Thieves have targeted a village church, causing an estimated £20,000 of damage.

    Roger Tucker, churchwarden of the 14th-Century St Leonard's Church in Holwell, Leicestershire, said they got away with "a few tonnes" of lead.

    "There are six-inch divots in the ground where the lead hit the grass," he said.

    "We were in the process of having a burglar alarm installed by the thieves just got there too quickly."

    Police are investigating but no arrests have been made.

    A 42-year-old man is recovering after being attacked at a food bank in Derby.

    Police said the assault followed an altercation between two men at the pop-up food bank at the Assembly Rooms on Wednesday 13 February.

    A mum living with cancer is attempting her first Parkrun event to promote the benefits of exercise for people with advanced forms of the disease.

    Gemma Ellis, 36, from Chapel-en-le-Frith has never really exercised before but has been in training with regular runners Helen Bacon and Tony Collier who also have metastatic - or stage 4 - cancer.

    Gemma's breast cancer has spread to her spine so she is now planning to walk the 5km Stretford Parkrun event on Saturday.

    They all feature in a film by Macmillan Cancer Support showing how exercise can help people with incurable but treatable cancer live better, and potentially longer.
