    Two men from Leicester are among four people arrested, external over the theft of six tractors in Staffordshire earlier this year.

    The arrests came after farm vehicles were found during early-morning raids at a farm in Stapleton in Leicestershire and two other searches in Warwickshire and Walsall.

    Staffordshire Police said a 36-year-old man from Leicester was arrested on suspicion of burglary, a 22-year-old man from Walsall and a 44-year-old man from Warwickshire were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit burglary and a 32-year-old man from Leicester was arrested on suspicion of handling stolen goods.

    They have since been released under investigation while enquiries continue.

    A dementia patient told inspectors that they only had one shower every six weeks at a county care home.

    Scalding hot water, residents sleeping on soiled sheets and unexplained bruising and grazes were also found when inspectors from the Care Quality Commission visited Quorn Orchards Care Home.

    Inspectors raised safeguarding alerts with the local authority because of some of the things they witnessed during an unplanned inspection, external in October 2018.

    Accident and incident records seen by inspectors said seven residents had unexplained bruising, skin tears and grazing in the ten weeks before the inspection.

    Records showed that there had been 11 unwitnessed falls in communal areas since July 2018. The CQC said that there were not enough staff to support people moving around safely.

    A resident told inspectors they would like to bathe more often: "I am helped to shower every six weeks. I have a strip wash most days; it depends if there are enough staff," they said.

    Inspectors were so concerned about the lack of staff that they raised a safeguarding alert. As a result, one person was moved to another care home the day after the inspection.

    A spokesperson for the care home on School Lane said: "We have addressed the concerns raised by the CQC. Improvements have been made. We look forward to their next visit."

    The head of Nottinghamshire's Children and Young People’s Committee has told the BBC “there is no secondary school place 'crisis' in Gedling.

    Councillor Philip Owen said: "We are working to provide extra places within the next five years - £2.6m has been identified for Carlton Academy to produce up to 300 additional places.

    "In addition, early discussions are taking place with Carlton le Willows school to produce a similar number of secondary school places, possibly available from 2021."

    His comments come after the Labour MP Vernon Coaker said the authority needed to take "immediate action" to prevent hundreds of children in Gedling being left without a secondary school place.

    A man has been jailed for causing the death of an 86-year-old woman from Barnsley.

    Elizabeth Harrison, 86, from Barnsley died in hospital after the multi-car crash on the M1 near Chesterfield on Saturday 30 December.

    Gela Rus, 30, of Laurie Avenue, Nottingham was charged with causing death by careless driving and was jailed for 10 months at Derby Crown Court.

    Rus was also disqualified from driving for two years and five months.

    The site of a former lace factory in Loughborough, which was an industry leader in the early 1800s, has been honoured with a special plaque.

    In 1816 a group of Luddites destroyed the 55 machines. A group of workers from Loughborough then followed John Heathcoat by walking 200 miles to find employment at a lace factory in Devon.

    It's being claimed there's a looming crisis over school places in Gedling.

    The Labour MP Vernon Coaker said hundreds of children risk not being able to get their education locally as early as this coming September.

    The county council says 92% of parents in the borough have received their first choice secondary school place but parent Ben Hemstock believes the reality is quite different.

    Mr Hemstock, whose eldest daughter is six, said he was concerned about a possible lack of secondary school places.

    He said: "By the time my daughter starts school in 2023, as it stands at the moment, they're looking at 662 places short between The Carlton Academy and Carlton le Willows Academy.

    "It's daunting enough for an 11-year-old to move up to secondary school from primary without losing all their friends as well."

    An investigation into a crash between a motorbike and a parked van has found a police pursuit beforehand "was carried out appropriately".

    The crash happened in Broxtowe on 26 April last year. Police were following the motorbike because it had been reported as stolen but called off the chase when the motorcyclist threw away his helmet.

    Moments later officers found the bike hit the back of a van on Alwyn Road causing "serious injuries" to the rider.

    The Independent Office for Police Conduct said the pursuit was "correctly authorised and carried out in accordance with local and national policy".

    The police watchdog said it made the decision after reviewing witness statements, studying body-worn footage, police airwave radio transmissions and other electronic data.

    At a meeting in Marehay last night the local MP Nigel Mills told the audience he "damn well hopes" plans to build on several sections of green belt don't get voted through.

    The authority has said concerns have been raised about the proposed removal of land from the Green Belt within the village.

    It said: "Each village will still have a defined Green Belt boundary. It is unlikely that the proposed changes will result in any material increase in development, with the expected opportunities within each village being limited to small-scale development."
