  1. Girl, 12, in search for lifesaving bone marrow donorpublished at 10:16 British Summer Time 3 April 2019

    Nick Smith
    BBC News Online

A 12-year-old girl who needs to find a lifesaving stem cell match is calling on people to become bone marrow donors in Nottingham.

Lilya Coleman Jones, who was diagnosed with leukemia in November, is running a series of events with the Anthony Nolan register to help people like her who need a transplant.

Her mother, Helen Jones, said: "She said 'I know it's probably not going to help me but if could help somebody else then that would be brilliant', which was astonishing, to be honest, given everything she's gone through."

Her family have been ruled out as potential donors so she is now relying on a complete stranger for a match.

Fernwood School pupil Lilya said: "I really want to do this to raise more awareness and get people to donate so they can help people like me."

Five events are being held across the city today at Loxley House, Council House, Central Library, Bulwell Riverside and Clifton Library with further events tomorrow and on Saturday, external.

    BBC Radio Leicester

Approximately a quarter of people in the UK will experience a mental health problem each year according to the charity Mind. For some it's more severe.

One woman, who was sectioned and had to spend several months in Leicester's Bradgate Mental Health Unit, has been talking to the BBC about her time at the centre.

    Bradgate Mental Health Unit

She admits at the time she was very vulnerable and needed to be there but said overall the experience wasn't good.

During her time there she believes she was too heavily restricted. The woman, who did not want to be named, said: "For a lot of the time I wasn't allowed walks. I think it was about two months before I had my first walk."

She said this made her frustrated, irritable and rude towards others.

She believes that if she had been given more freedom, away from the unit, she could have been discharged earlier.

Peter Miller, chief executive of Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust admits some higher risk people can have their freedom restricted but claims it's for their own safety.

Ward sister Saskya Falope said improvements have recently been made to improve the patient experience including a revamped garden, gym and better indoor entertainment.

Mr Miller said there are plans for the whole unit to undergo a £50m rebuild in the future.

A family affected by cuts to school buses for children with special needs has taken the decision to a judicial review.

Leicestershire County Council plans to stop providing transport for 16 to 18-year-olds and instead give families a payment to make their own arrangements.

Stefan Drexler, whose daughter Kirstine makes a 26-mile round trip to a special school, said axing the service would be "morally wrong" and that it would "put a huge strain" on the family.

The authority said it could not comment while the review took place.
