    Police are appealing for information after three men raided a property near Markfield at around 01:20 on 30 March.

    The suspects were reported to be carrying a crowbar and a spirit level.

    Two victims, both men, who were in the premises in Markfield Lane at the time, managed to get behind a door which they pushed against to try to stop the suspects from entering the room they were in.

    One of the victims suffered minor injuries.

    Police are keen to track a dark-coloured saloon in relation to the burglary.

    Nothing is believed to have been stolen.

    A man has been jailed after a gas-powered tool was used to blow up a cash machine during a burglary in Balderton.

    George Buck, 28, from Castleview in Newark, was sentenced to seven years and four months after previously pleading guilty to charges of burglary and causing an explosion.

    The cash machine at Balderton Post Office on Main Street was burgled in the early hours of Saturday 2 February.

    Four men used a saw to cut through the metal shutter and a gas-powered device was used to blow-up the cash machine. This caused "extensive damage" to the shop and the machine, where cash was taken.

    About an hour later, the car used by the offenders was spotted by police in Yorkshire. The driver failed to stop but was followed by officers and a police helicopter.

    The car eventually crashed in Doncaster and Buck was later found hiding behind a skip.

    Nottinghamshire Police said the investigation is still active and they are working to identify the others involved.

    A van driver has sustained fractures to his arm after being attacked with a baseball bat in a lay-by.

    The 28-year-old man pulled into the lay-by on the A607 in East Goscote on Tuesday afternoon but was soon followed by another vehicle.

    He was assaulted with the bat and needed hospital treatment for a fractured arm.

    A 27-year-old man from Melton Mowbray has been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and has been released on police bail while inquiries continue.

    Police would like to hear from anyone travelling along the A607 at the time who may have witnessed the attack.

    Almost 26 years after the death of Stephen Lawrence his life and legacy is being shared in Leicester.

    His mother, Baroness Doreen Lawrence, has addressed school children at De Montfort University where she is chancellor.

    It comes ahead of the first national Stephen Lawrence Day and the opening of the Stephen Lawrence Research Centre at the university next month.

    Baroness Lawrence said: "We're in the same place we were nearly 26 years ago with so many people losing their lives."

    She wants there to be more of a focus on the positive things young people can be doing and encourages them to "live their best lives".

    Police are looking to speak to this man after wallets and a car were stolen during a football match.

    On Sunday, wallets and car keys were taken from a changing room at a college in Spink Hill between 11:00 and 12:00, before the offender made off in a stolen Audi TT.

    The bank cards which were taken have been used in the Hackenthorpe area of Sheffield.

    Police would also like to speak to him in connection with a burglary in Newfield Lane, Sheffield on 14 January.

    The Wikileaks co-founder was arrested at the Ecuadorian embassy in London this morning, where he has been seeking refuge since 2012.

    He has been found guilty of failing to surrender to the court at Westminster Magistrates' Court.

    He also faces US federal conspiracy charges related to one of the largest-ever leaks of government secrets.

    Two people killed in a house fire, caused by an electrical fault, have been named by coroners.

    Malcolm George Nokes, 89, and Margaret Ann Nokes, 86, died when the property on Church Road, in Kirby Muxloe, Leicestershire, caught alight.

    The elderly couple died at the scene in the early hours of Friday morning.

    Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service found the cause of the blaze was accidental following a fault in the house's fuse box.
