    The Muller plant in Foston, South Derbyshire, is at risk of closure as the firm announces plans to review its dairy network.

    The Union of Shop, Distribution and Allied Workers (USDAW) said the company, which is one of the UK's largest dairy producers, confirmed the Foston site, out of its six dairies, is most at risk.

    Daniel Adams from the union said the news was "a devastating blow for a loyal and hardworking workforce", with 228 jobs potentially at risk.

    He said USDAW would now work with the company to look at alternatives and mitigate the impact closure could have on staff.

    Muller said it had entered into a 45-day collective consultation period to assess the future of their operations.

    Chief executive Patrick Müller said: “It is a matter of considerable regret that we must consult on steps which could result in a restructuring of our dairy network and capacity but we must ensure the sustainability of our business and address potential over-capacity in our network."

    Two men have been arrested in connection with a car key burglary.

    Police were called to a house in Ling Crescent, Ruddington, at 18:12 yesterday to reports that a house had been broken into and the victim's car had been stolen.

    The stolen vehicle was later seen on the A46 near Leicester and officers tracked it to the St Ann's area of Nottingham.

    Two men, aged 21 and 20, were arrested on suspicion of burglary once the car came to a stop.

    They remain in police custody.

    Members of a historic enactment group have been told they will no longer be part of a Leicestershire attraction.

    After 35 years performing at the Bosworth Battlefield Heritage Centre the Les Routiers de Rouen group have had their contract terminated by the county council.

    Karen Lambert from the group said the news came out of the blue and they have appealed the council's decision, with more than 1,200 people supporting their petition.

    "We are a loyal group of volunteers and everybody feels disappointed about this," said Ms Lambert.

    "They are so passionate about Bosworth and King Richard III and keeping the centre alive."

    Leicestershire County Council said it "has a responsibility to review its heritage offer to ensure attractions remain relevant and popular with the public.

    It said "a variety of historic re-creations" will continue at the site throughout the year."

    Two friends convicted of preparing for terrorist acts in support of the so-called Islamic State after trying to reach Syria have had their sentencing adjourned.

    Hanzalah Patel, of Frederick Road, Leicester, and Safwaan Mansur, of Hampton Road, Birmingham, travelled to Turkey in 2016 and 2017 after checking out an area near the Syrian border on TripAdvisor, a two-week trial was told.

    Prosecutors said the men, both 22, had attempted to explain away their travel plans as an "innocent camping holiday".

    Both men were due to be sentenced at Birmingham Crown Court today, but the judge put off the case for further reports into the men's offending.

    David Hasselhoff is to play Ebenezer Scrooge in a production of A Christmas Carol in Nottingham later this year.

    The Baywatch and Knightrider star will portray the famously grumpy character in a musical adaptation of the Charles Dickens festive classic at the Motorpoint Arena in December.

    The production will also feature a holographic appearance from actress Pauline Quirke as the Ghost of Christmas Past.

    Hasselhoff said: "It’s not a panto, it’s a fully-fledged Christmas show. It’s the Dickens classic with great music on a spectacular scale."

    A man has appeared in court charged with the murder of a man found fatally injured in a car park.

    The man, 57, was found near Chaddesden Park in Derby at about 21:45 on Saturday, and died soon after being taken to hospital.

    Jacob Ali, 19, of Ashworth Avenue, Chaddesden, has been charged with murder and robbery and was remanded in custody at Southern Derby Magistrates' Court this morning, ahead of a hearing at Derby Crown Court tomorrow.

    Thai Johnson, 19, of Renfrew Street, Chaddesden, and Zak Stevens, 26, of Crewton Way, Alvaston, have been charged with assisting an offender in relation to the man's death and are due in front of magistrates later today.

    Detectives investigating the death of a woman whose body was found at a flat fire in Leicester have set up an online questionnaire, external to find out more about how she died.

    Leah Fray, 27, was discovered by firefighters in Mere Road at about 07:00 on Easter Sunday.

    Leicestershire Police said the "public portal" would allow people to securely tell them anything they knew about Leah or anyone who visited her flat prior to her death.

    Part of a major development at Nottingham Trent University's Brackenhurst campus has had to be demolished after a large crack appeared in an exterior wall of a lecture theatre.

    The new £10m Reception and Environment Centre is due to open in September. The university has not said whether the setback will delay its completion.

    In a statement, the university said: "Last week, our contractor noted some structural defects on the lecture theatre of the new Lyth building.

    "Following advice, the decision was taken on Good Friday to remove the affected section of building.

    "Demolition work has now been undertaken and an extended exclusion zone is expected to remain in place around the unoccupied building until further safety checks are completed.

    "An investigation is under way to determine the cause of the defects.”

    A vigil was held at Leicester's Clock Tower yesterday evening for victims of the Easter Sunday bomb attacks in Sri Lanka.

    The ceremony was led by a Buddhist monk and there were also Catholic prayers.

    At least 359 people were killed and more than 500 injured when suicide bombers attacked churches and hotels.

    A second vigil is due to take place at Leicester Cathedral this evening, featuring leaders from several faiths.

    An angry driver headbutted and threatened a father in front of his three children, a court has heard.

    Loughborough Magistrates Court was told that van driver Asa Dingley lost his temper with the other driver when their vehicles ended up in a situation where neither could move forward in Leicester.

    The prosecution said Dingley approached the victim's car, headbutted him and then scratched the car with his key, causing £432 worth of damage.

    Dingley, 31, of Shire Close, Leicester, pleaded guilty to assault by beating and criminal damage, and was given an eight-week prison sentence, suspended for 18 months.

    The judge said: "I accept that there was no visible injury to the victim but you threatened him and his children had to watch that and fear for what was going to happen to him.

    "You carried out these offences shortly after you had assaulted someone else and you have previous convictions for assault which makes this more serious."

    The attack happened at the junction of Orchard Street and Burleys Way in October.
