    A woman who was hit by a bus in Leicester on Friday has died in hospital, external.

    Police said the woman, who was in her 70s, died yesterday after being struck in Humberstone Gate at about 17:00 on Friday.

    No-one else was hurt in the crash. Police have appealed for witnesses.

    A jury panel has been sworn in at the trial of a woman accused of killing her newborn baby.

    Hannah Cobley denies murdering the unnamed infant in April 2017 while living at a farm in Leicestershire.

    The 29-year-old, of Broughton Road, Stoney Stanton, was charged with the offence in August last year.

    The prosecution is due to start setting out its case tomorrow, with the trial expected to last up to six weeks.

    Work has begun on a £75,000 memorial for a unit stationed in Leicestershire before the Battle of Arnhem.

    The 10th Parachute Battalion was stationed in Somerby before the battle in Holland, where more than 1,400 allied troops died.

    Now almost 75 years on, its men are to be permanently remembered.

    One of the pieces depicts a chicken, which one soldier carried on his practice jumps, and which died in the battle.

    Shakespears Sister have reformed after 26 years - and will kick off their comeback tour in Nottingham, external.

    The duo, who enjoyed chart success with hits including You're History and Stay, will play the Royal Concert Hall on 31 October ahead of 13 other UK dates.

    The tour follows the release of a greatest hits compilation in July featuring two new tracks.

    All Saints Church in Scraptoft, Leicestershire was broken into last night.

    The culprits smashed a stained glass window which police said would cost the church "a lot to repair" but nothing was reported as taken.

    It is thought the building in Church Hill was broken into some time between last night and 06:40 this morning.

    A 19-year-old is in a critical condition, external after six people were stabbed outside a nightclub in Nottingham yesterday.

    Nottinghamshire Police said five of the six injured men were arrested on suspicion of violent disorder following the violence outside Pryzm in Lower Parliament Street at about 03:45.

    Officers have been granted more time to question an 18-year-old man. Four others, aged between 19 and 24, have been released on bail. All five have been discharged from hospital.

    The trouble followed a bank holiday event at the venue with former BBC Radio 1 presenter DJ Spoony.

    Det Insp Daniel Johnstone said: "It is believed the altercation started outside as people were leaving the nightclub.

    "There were a lot of people in the area at the time and I would appeal for anyone who was there and saw something that could be helpful to the inquiry to come forward."

    The blaze was discovered at North Mills industrial estate, near Frog Island, at about 06:15 on Monday 22 April. Nobody was injured.
