    A 56-year-old man has been taken to hospital after being stabbed in Sutton-in-Ashfield.

    His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

    A 51-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

    Two men are in hospital after being hit with a metal bar during a fight in a Nottinghamshire town last night.

    One received treatment for head injuries and the other for leg injuries, but neither are currently believed to be life-threatening.

    Police were called to reports of a disturbance in Droversdale Road, Bircotes, just before 21.30 and believe the offenders drove off in two vehicles.

    The former Leicester City footballer Danny Drinkwater has been banned from driving for 20 months.

    It's after he ploughed his Range Rover through a wall while twice the legal drink-drive limit.

    The 29-year-old and two female passengers were treated for minor injuries after the crash in Mere, Cheshire, on 8 April.

    Drinkwater admitted drink-driving and his defence lawyer asked for him to be punished with a fine rather than community service.

    The District Judge at Stockport Magistrates' Court rejected this and sentenced him to a 12-month community order with 70 hours' community service.

    He was also ordered to pay £85 prosecution costs and an £85 victim surcharge.

    A van driver was filmed using his phone on the A38 near Derby by police using a "super cab".

    He was among more than 3,000 drivers filmed by officers in unmarked lorries in the past year. The cabs give them a high vantage point making it easier to look into the windows of passing trucks.

    Some drivers were spotted with their feet up on the dashboard and watching TV.

    A mum who fostered 11 children in less than three years says it is a challenge, but her reward is seeing them laugh or move on to adoption.

    Hayley Walker, from Birstall, started fostering despite already having four of her own.

    It's because she thought she was good at being a mum and wanted to offer her skills to children who need it.

    Home for Good, a fostering and adoption charity, said there has been an increasing number of children coming through the care system and they need 30 new families to sign up next year in Leicester alone, and 550 in the East Midlands.

    Two firms have been fined after 35 fish died when water run-off from a maize storage operation polluted a lake near Retford.

    The Environment Agency said maize silage effluent from the facility at Sutton Grange Farm in Sutton-cum-Lound had leaked into the pond in October 2015, reducing oxygen levels and killing the fish.

    Sutton Grange AD Ltd and Sutton Grange Services Ltd admitted breaching environmental regulations at Mansfield Magistrates' Court on Friday and were fined more than £10,000 each.

    Company bosses said steps had been taken to ensure it would not happen again.

    A man was arrested during Leicester's match against Chelsea yesterday accused of racist chanting.

    He was released on bail and officers are now investigating further.

    More than 32,000 people attended the match - which ended in a goalless draw - and three men were arrested, one for assault, and two for public order offences, police said.

    Residents on a Derby street got a big shock at the weekend when they spotted thousands of bees gathering on the pavement.

    The large swarm arrived in Upper Dale Road, Normanton on Sunday afternoon, prompting panic among some locals, according to the Derby Telegraph, external.

    Pest controller Wayne Beck, who was called to the scene, said the honey bees would have been protecting the queen as she stopped for a rest while on the move.

    Mr Beck added it was unusual but not unheard of for swarms to stop on a pavement rather than a building or greener spot.

    A cordon was put in place and the queen has since continued on her way.

    Sadly many of her "bodyguard" bees paid the ultimate price and ended up crushed in the course of protecting her.

    People whose lives have been saved thanks to the Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance are taking part in the charity's 25th anniversary celebrations today.

    About 20,000 missions have been completed since the service started in 1994.

    In the past two years, the charity has bought a new helicopter and started operating 24 hours a day.

    Shani Wortley, from the charity, said: "We've made a positive impact on literally thousands of lives over the past 25 years."

    This Leicestershire group has been meeting to swim naked together for the past 30 years.

    Desford Swim get about 30 people a week and members describe the atmosphere as "liberating" and "welcoming" but they have a problem - there are three times as many men as women.

    To address that, they're offering free swims to women for the next three weeks at their 9.30 Sunday morning sessions.

    The rail giant Arriva is suing the government after it lost its bid to run the East Midlands railway franchise.

    The firm, owned by Germany's state-backed Deutsche Bahn, said it wanted more information on how the Department for Transport assessed the bids, which was won by Dutch company Abelio.

    The move comes after rival and current operator Stagecoach, which was banned from rebidding, announced it was taking legal action.

    The Department for Transport said it had "total confidence" in its franchise competition process.
