    Three out of four lanes are closed on the M1 northbound between J28 and J29 near Chesterfield because of a burning lorry.

    Highways England say traffic officers are on their way. The fire service say they are not aware of any injuries.

    Travel time is 60 minutes, according to traffic monitoring site Inrix.

    A lap top, car keys and bank cards have been stolen from a house in Newbold.

    Police said the burglary happened on Lancaster Road between the evening of Tuesday 7 May and the morning of Wednesday 8 May.

    The bank cards were used that morning at a nearby convenience store.

    Police would like to talk to these two men who were seen in the area at the time. They're appealing for help to identify them.

    A woman in Leicester is trying to find her late father's service medals after her elderly mother, who has dementia, gave them to a stranger in the street.

    Annie Brooks said her 80-year-old mum has unknowingly given several of her belongings away but most of them have been returned.

    The four war medals, in a velvet box, belonged to her father who died in February. He had wanted them to go to his grandson.

    The medals were given to John Tomlin for his service in Germany and Korea. The medal from Germany has his name inscribed on the back.

    Ms Brooks believes they’ve been missing for about four weeks.

    Young girls are being pushed into marrying "predators", a Derbyshire MP has said, prompting calls to increase the age at which people can marry.

    Tory MP for Mid Derbyshire Pauline Latham said the age at which people are allowed to marry should be raised to stop children being pushed into arranged marriages with older men.

    She said allowing people to marry at such a young age is a "loophole" which is being abused by "predators" looking to marry young girls.

    Mrs Latham will lead a debate in Westminster Hall on Wednesday on whether the minimum age of marriages and civil partnerships ought to be raised from 16 to 18.

    A woman has been arrested in connection with the stabbing of a man in Leicester early this morning.

    Police were called to Liberty Road in the city by paramedics at 4:45 where a man in his 50s had suffered a single stab wound.

    He remains in hospital in a critical condition, the force said.

    A 41-year-old woman was arrested and remains in police custody, and there is a cordon at the scene.

    A hot air balloon which needed help from the fire service "landed normally", the operator said.

    A Virgin flight landed in a field near Rainworth, Nottinghamshire, late last night in what the fire service said was an "emergency landing".

    But the firm has since said that the balloon came down as planned in a large clearing surrounded by woodland at the end of the flight.

    "After landing, our pilot and crew realised that what had looked like dirt roads from above were in fact tracks not suitable for vehicle access, and there was also a locked gate preventing access," a spokeswoman said.

    "As it was starting to get dark and with us unable to get our vehicles on site, our pilot... contacted Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service, who were absolutely fantastic and came out to assist us walking the passengers safely through the woods."

    The firm added that balloons "cannot be steered in the traditional sense" so pilots land when they see a large clear space, in accordance with aviation law.

    Police squeezed through a hole behind a toilet to find a hidden canabis farm in a Worksop home.

    A total of 282 plants were found, worth a potential £300,000, and the weight of them was so much that the ceiling fell down while police were in the building.

    They went in to the Ryton street property at about 10:00 on Tuesday after inspectors from the electricity company discovered the drugs over three floors.

    This Leicestershire family say their dream home has turned in to a nightmare because it was not built properly.

    Paul Smith, who lives in new build in Loughborough with his wife and four kids, says they sometimes have to abandon their home of 18 months because the drains don't work, the chimney is unstable and the garage door isn't done properly.

    According to Homeowners Alliance, about nine in 10 new build homeowners experience problems when they move in.

    Morris Homes, which built the property, said it has been speaking to him for some time but that on recent visits staff had not been let in. The firm added that it cannot comment further as it is legal proceedings have been started.

    Police are appealing for witnesses after a hit-and-run left a cyclist needing hospital treatment.

    The cyclist, a 68-year-old man, was hit on the B600, Nuthall, at 15.50pm on Monday and suffered minor injuries.

    Police would like to speak to anyone who saw a gold-coloured jeep-type vehicle leaving the scene.

    A section of the A608 through Morley was closed this morning after two cars were involved in a head-on collision.

    A woman was taken to hospital with serious non-life-threatening injuries, the Derby Telegraph reported, external.

    A 23-year-old died on a city centre street police had closed because of "reports of concern for a woman's safety".

    Wollaton Street in Nottingham was shut early yesterday morning. A woman was pronounced dead at the scene a short time after they arrived.

    Ever volunteered for something and then really regretted it?

    Well Ian Guest, 60, had to travel about 50 miles to fulfill a commitment after getting his Cliftons mixed up.

    The Sheffield resident thought he'd signed up to help out at the Park Run in Clifton, Rotherham. But instead, he'd agreed to help out at the Clifton branch in Nottingham, and only realised when he checked the night before.

    He felt he owed it to those who had marshalled his races to go, and the Nottingham group would have struggled to go ahead without him, so he hopped on a train.

    But he admitted next time he would be "double and triple checking" before he signed up.

    They've been placing special nesters at Mercia Marina in Willington, where red mason bees can live and breed.

    The bees are less likely to sting than many other species and are vital in pollinating fruit trees.

    Seventeen people had to be led to safety by firefighters when a hot air balloon made an emergency landing last night.

    Crews from Mansfield and Blidworth went out to woods near Rainworth, after being called at about 22:00.

    It's thought they made the landing near the Old Rufford Colliery because it was getting dark. Two people with disabilities were among the group but no-one was hurt and a mini bus took them home.

    A serious crash on the A14 is causing traffic woes on the M1 in south Leicestershire.

    Traffic is being stopped from leaving the M1 and the M6 to head east at the Catthorpe interchange.

    Drivers are being diverted around Market Harborough but this is causing "severe congestion" on those routes.
