The Environment Agency has issued a flood alert - meaning flooding is possible - for the lower River Soar in Leicestershire.
The agency said heavy rainfall was causing a rise in the river levels at Pillings Lock.
Flooding of roads and farmland is possible, and an alert is in place between 07:00 and midnight tomorrow.
Areas at most risk include Slash Lane at Sileby and the Mountsorrel to Sileby road.
River levels are expected to continue to rise until 14:00 BST on Thursday.
The agency warned: "Please avoid using low-lying footpaths near local watercourses and plan driving routes to avoid low-lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded."
This was the scene in Mountsorrel earlier.

A Nottingham councillor was served a court summons and liability order after he failed to pay his council tax bill on time, a report has said.
Roger Steel was elected on to the Clifton North Ward last September and is one of only two Conservatives on the city council.
The Local Democracy Reporting Service said a summons was issued to him in the 2017/18 tax year for the sum of £2,263.24. He said the delay in payment happened because of an “administrative error”.
He added: “My council tax arrears were settled in full prior to the council budget meeting.”
A council document said the issue has now been resolved.
Labour councillor Sam Webster, portfolio holder for finance, said: "The vast majority of people and businesses pay their council tax and business rates, and the small number who don’t are undermining the council’s ability to provide the services that everyone relies on."

Leicester City Council says it will begin discussions about introducing a charge for organisations that offer workplace parking for employees.
The council says any money raised would be used to fund transport improvements, while cutting congestion and pollution in the city.
Deputy city mayor Adam Clarke, who leads on environment and transport, said: "It is essential we continue to invest in transport improvements that encourage more people to walk, cycle and take the bus.
"There is a lot of work that needs to be done before we can consult on our case for a workplace parking levy."
Nottingham is the only UK city to have introduced a workplace parking levy, which has brought in £60m since 2012.

Network Rail has apologised that "some aspects" of its fire-proofing at Nottingham railway station were not up to standard.
Yesterday Gemma Peat was jailed for 25 months for starting a fire that caused £5.6m damage to the station.
Aspects of Network Rail's £60m refurbishment, carried out four years before the blaze, were heavily criticised during the case, with the court told builders "cut corners".
A Network Rail spokeswoman said: "We are sorry that some aspects of the fire-proofing work were not ultimately delivered to standard."

A painting of the RAF Chinook helicopter taking sandbags to Whaley Bridge has gone on display at Derbyshire's joint police and fire service headquarters in Ripley.
It was painted by student Ellie Kerr when the village faced major disruption earlier this month.
Residents were evacuated over fears the dam wall at Toddbrook Reservoir could collapse.
Ms Kerr previously told the BBC she felt "helpless" at the time because she was away at university in Manchester.
"Everyone I know is there and that's why I wanted to do something and this is one of the things I know how to do," said the 21-year-old.
Derbyshire Police has asked anyone else wanting to display Whaley Bridge artwork at the building to get in touch with them.
