A group of volunteers say they are devastated after vandals attacked saplings that had been planted in a Derby park.
More than 400 trees had been planted at Willowcroft Park in Spondon in the week leading up to 9 December but volunteers discovered this morning a large number had been trampled on and their support canes snapped.
Trees for Spondon said the destruction was "incredibly disheartening" but most of the trees had survived and the group was hoping to rectify the damage in the coming days.
It added the vandalism had been reported to Derbyshire Police.

A Derbyshire councillor who was found to have set up a fake meeting to save colleagues from losing their parish council positions has been stripped of his borough council cabinet role.
Mike Wallis set up the bogus meeting while he was chairman of Ockbrook and Borrowash Parish Council two years ago to get around rules saying councillors had to stand down if they did not attend a meeting for six months.
Mr Wallis, who has admitted the "error of judgement", has been stripped of his role as Erewash Borough Council's lead member for culture and leisure, and suspended from the Conservative group for six months.
Borough council leader Carol Hart said: "Councillor Mike Wallis has been a hard-working councillor for many years... but the recent outcome and verdict of the standards board was totally unacceptable."
The six-month suspension is the maximum period allowed by the group's rules.
The parish council has also unanimously requested Mr Wallis's resignation.
An earlier review of Daniel Hay's treatment found he had "unnecessarily harmed" eight women.

Health bosses in Nottinghamshire have said some people have been abusive to NHS staff after being told they cannot have the Covid-19 vaccination yet.
Dr Andy Haynes, head of the city and county's Integrated Care System, said people needed to understand the vaccine was being rolled out in a set order based on prioritisation of risk.
He said: "It's important people don't swamp our phone lines by seeking to get the vaccine. We've had one or two people this week who have been rather frustrated and abusive to staff when they've not been able to obtain a vaccine.
"When it's your turn to be vaccinated you'll be notified by letter and that letter will contain all the information you need."
Dr Haynes added the vaccine roll-out was a "long programme" that would continue well into next year.
He also urged people to make sure they turned up for their second jab or the inoculation would be ineffective and valuable resources would have been wasted.

In a statement, the prison said all staff and prisoners had been issued with face protection and cleaning is being bolstered.
Prison visits have also been temporarily halted as bosses work with Public Health England to manage the situation.
