Police in Leicestershire have released a list of cars that were in the vicinity of a crash on the M1 on Wednesday.

A man in his 30s remains in a critical condition in hospital after the crash between junctions 20 and 21 on the northbound carriageway at about 18:30.

A 24-year-old man arrested on suspicion of failing to stop has been released under investigation.

Leicestershire Police said officers believe a dark-coloured Vauxhall Astra and a silver Ford Focus "will have had to move from the outside lane to avoid colliding with the vehicles involved".

Officers are also looking to speak to the drivers of a red Fiat Panda, a black Ford Transit van, a white Mitsubishi L200, a dark-coloured Vauxhall Corsa, a silver Renault Master van or Vauxhall Vivaro, and a white Volkswagen SUV.

  17. Derby cycling group 'devastated' by £30k theftpublished at 17:40 Greenwich Mean Time 12 March 2021

    Alex Regan
    BBC News

A group which promotes cycling in Derby said it was "devastated" after about £30,000 worth of bicycles and equipment was stolen from its premises in the city.

Cycle Derby said specially adapted bikes, tools and clothing had been taken from its base in Markeaton Park on Wednesday evening.

Project manager Mark Smith said: "Someone decided to help themselves to our standard bike fleet, and some of our specially adapted bikes, it's a bit of a nightmare.

"[Cycle Derby has been] so popular especially with people with physical and mental disabilities. This is a blow, but it's not one that we're not going to overcome."

Mr Smith said the intruders used angle grinders to "break down" the steel gates to get into the headquarters.

The organisation is insured, but the project manager said "you can't put a price" on the value of the bikes to users of the scheme.

"We deal with adults with autism, and one of the things they like is familiarity, so when we get them to ride a bike they love that bike," he said.

"Whether it's the smell of that bike, the colour of that bike, or just the look of it, that's their bike.

"Trying to get them on another bike is so difficult."

Police said officers are investigating and inquiries are ongoing.
