  2. Poundland murder victim 'a deeply caring' manpublished at 15:10

    The family of the man stabbed to death in Abingdon Poundland on Monday morning has described him as "a deeply caring husband and a very proud and loving father".

    Justin Skrebowski's family said they were in "deep shock and distress", but appreciated the sympathy expressed by the public.

    Trevor Joyce, 36, of Franklyn Close, Abingdon will appear at Oxford Crown Court tomorrow charged with Mr Skrebowski's murder.

    Superfast broadband is set to be available across all rural areas of west Oxfordshire, external, according to the district council.

    Both fibre and enhanced wireless connectivity will be used by Cotswolds Broadband to offer blanket coverage, in one of the first projects in the country to totally cover a district.

    The technology will be funded by a £1.6m grant from the government, a £1.6m loan from the district council and £3.2m from internet service provider Gigaclear.

    A World War Two veteran from Abingdon has been presented with the highest French military honour.

    Albert Wright, 93, a former Wing Commander in the RAF, was one of a dozen servicemen to receive the Legion d'Honneur in the latest ceremony in London.

    It comes after President Francois Hollande pledged to honour all British veterans who had served in France during the war.

    A 40-year-old woman from Oxford has been arrested after a man was stabbed in Eynsham, external.

    Police were called to a property in the town at about 18:30 on Tuesday 8 December to find a 50-year-old man with facial injuries.

    He was taken to hospital where he remains.

    A Viking hoard found in a field near Watlington by a metal detectorist is an important find from a "key moment in English history", according to an expert at the British Museum.
