    On South Today this evening: Homeless support groups in Oxford say that with the number of rough sleepers in the city at its highest recorded level - and huge cuts to their budgets - they are facing "a perfect storm".

    It comes as one support centre for the homeless has announced it will have to close next year because of a lack of funding.

    An unannounced inspection by the Care Quality Commission found the home failing to meet standards for safety, effectiveness, responsiveness and leadership.

    It was assessed as good for being a caring service.

  9. Travel latest: A40 roadworks delays, and queues in Banbury and Abingdonpublished at 17:03

    • It's looking very heavy through the Cutteslowe roundabout roadworks, especially coming from Marston
    • Very slow traffic and heavier than usual traffic on A4144 St Aldate's in both directions in Oxford between the A420 Thames Street junction and Kennington Roundabout  
    • There are delays in Banbury at South Bar Street around Banbury Cross
    • Abingdon has got queues on Ock Street in both directions between Spring Road and East St Helen Street

  11. New Westgate 'Lantern' artwork design revealedpublished at 16:31

    The design for a proposed glass 'Lantern' artwork to be sited on the Bonn Square entrance of the new Westgate shopping centre has been revealed.

    The Lantern was conceived by Swiss artist Daniela Schönbächler and features 78 glass panels, varying in colour and translucence, and was inspired by a window at All Souls College.

  12. Revamped Wantage gym reopenedpublished at 16:22

    The gym at Wantage Leisure Centre has received a £127,000 upgrade, including new treadmills, bikes and crossover machines.

  13. Pupils reflect on 'life-changing' Kenyan projectpublished at 16:14

    For a group of teenagers in Oxfordshire, it was a school trip many of whom could only dream.

    Back in October, pupils from Wallingford School had the chance to travel to Kenya to help orphans growing up in poverty.

    It was part of a charity project which has been supporting poor communities for the last 15 years.

    Adina Campbell travelled with them, and has caught up with some of the group.

    Heavy fighting is continuing in the town of Sangin in southern Afghanistan, where Afghan soldiers trying to counter a major attack by the Taliban are to be joined by British military personnel in an advisory role.

  15. Landlord fined £15,000 over unlicensed Oxford homespublished at 15:40

    A landlord renting out four unlicensed houses in multiple occupation in Oxford has been fined £15,000 and ordered to pay costs of £2,692, external.

    Andrew Coyle of Daisy Bank Road in Cheltenham owned one property each in Meyseys Close and Troy Close, and another two in Elton Close.

    During their inspection visit, council officers found between four and five unrelated professional tenants living in each house. 

    At Meyseys Close and one of the Elton Close properties, fire protection measures were inadequate as there were missing fire doors.

  17. Syrian families settle in Oxfordpublished at 15:11

    The first families from Syria have arrived and are settling in Oxfordshire as part of the national refugee resettlement programme.

    The families have been supported by Asylum Welcome which helps them with language and culture lessons, and practical steps such as registering for a doctor and opening bank accounts.
