    An online petition calling for the meningitis B vaccine to be given to all children has reached almost 500,000 signatures.

    It's been prompted by the death of two-year-old Faye Burdett, after her mother released a heartbreaking picture of Faye lying in a hospital bed covered in a meningitis rash.

    What can Oxfordshire County Council do to save £15m? There were lots of ideas discussed as part of the cross-party agreement reached to pass the budget on Tuesday.

    They could raise more money by introducing a workplace parking levy, or save cash by reducing the number of cabinet members and forming one unitary local authority.

    The hospital trust behind the pipeline in Headington linking two hospitals' heating systems says that the consultation for the works did not take place in the way the trust would have wished.

    Speaking at Oxford County Council's scrutiny committee, Mark Mansfield, director of finance and procurement at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said: "We have apologised on a few occasions - including our chair issuing an apology at our most recent trust board meeting.

    "We did not consult as we should have done or as extensively as we would have wished."

    The effectiveness of our area's police force has been rated overall as good, external in a new report.

    Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary (HMIC) examined Thames Valley Police's efforts at keeping people safe, reducing crime, and at tackling serious and organised crime.

    Nationally the HMIC report says the effectiveness of neighbourhood policing is being "eroded" with officer teams spending as little as half their time on the beat.

    The budget settlement on Tuesday which ensured an extra £2m for the county's children's centres should be used to retain dozens of staff whose jobs had been put at risk by the proposed closure of all 44 centres, the council's Labour leader says.

    Under the pre-budget proposals 200 jobs were at risk, but Liz Brighouse says the new settlement should ensure that many people can keep their jobs.

    The county council cabinet is due to discuss the future of the children's centres at a meeting next week.

    The widow of the man killed in Poundland in Abingdon in December has started a petition to have knives placed behind a counter in shops, locked in cupboards or sold in secure packaging.
