The contribution leaseholders will have to make to the £20m project to refurbish five tower blocks in Oxford will be decided by an independent property tribunal, the city council says.
Estimates of £50,000 have been sent to residents who own their own flats, in advance of the tribunal in September.
Quote MessageThe apportionment isn't a simple matter and that's why we've referred the matter to the independent property tribunal ourselves. They will make a final decision and the leaseholders will be able to make representations to them, and we will be bound by their decision. The bills that we've sent out so far are not final bills.

Legal action could be taken by people living in five 1960s tower blocks in Oxford who have been asked to help pay for a £20m refurbishment.
Oxford City Council wants each of the 50 households who own their apartments to pay £50,000 and residents are now set to go to an independent property tribunal to see if the authority has been reasonable in asking for the money.
Quote MessageWe were just enjoying life and all of a sudden we were hit with a bill like this, which we didn't expect. We expect to pay something towards it, but I think £50,000 is just too much.
