    Breaking

A new chairman for Southern Health NHS trust has been proposed by NHS regulators, in the wake Mike Petter's resignation yesterday.

NHS Improvement wants to appoint Tim Smart as chair of the trust - he's previously been chief executive of King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust for seven years.

The regulatory body says he will lead a review into the "adequacy of the trust's current leadership".

    Quote Message

It is clear that dramatic change is needed urgently at Southern Health. Our action today in proposing the appointment of Tim Smart - a very experienced NHS leader - at the top of the organisation will speed up this improvement. Tim's appointment, along with other action we've already taken, will support this trust to provide the quality of care that people using its services expect.

  17. Southern Health: Shadow minister demands accountabilitypublished at 14:18 British Summer Time 29 April 2016

Labour's shadow minister for mental health, Luciana Berger MP, has demanded action and accountability is taken in the wake of the damning CQC report into Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust.

    Quote Message

This report makes for really shocking reading. More than two years after the tragic death of Connor Sparrowhawk and Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust is still not adequately protecting the thousands of people in its care. For these failings to be allowed to continue is unacceptable. The lack of accountability, at the highest levels of the trust, is beyond the pale. For patients and their families, this latest action plan is simply too little too late. They need to see robust action and real accountability and they need to see it now.

Luciana Berger, Labour and Co-operative MP for Liverpool Wavertree
