  2. Weekly Tinsel Tuesdays get underway in Ludlowpublished at 17:55

    Ludlow's traditional Christmas gift market, known as Tinsel Tuesday, was back today.

    The weekly event builds up to a big Christmas Carol sing-along around the tree on 17 December, which is followed by late-night shopping in the town.

  3. Shrewsbury Town boss supports back-up keeperpublished at 17:50

    Shrewsbury Town boss, Micky Mellon, says he has confidence in his back-up keeper, Mark Halstead.

    First-choice goalie, Jayson Leutwiler, is out of action with a broken nose and is expected to miss a couple of games, throwing the former Blackpool man into the spotlight.

    Mellon was encouraged by what he saw when Halstead was thrust into the action against Grimsby in the FA Cup.

    Temperatures are expect to drop to around 4C (39F).

  6. Police commissioner backs 20mph zonespublished at 17:10

    West Mercia's Police and Crime Commissioner says if more 20mph (32kmh) zones are created in Shropshire his force will "do its part" to make sure they're enforced.

    Bill Longmore has been asking people for their views on the subject and says the majority of respondents seem in favour of the idea.

    The PCC says there needs to be evidence roads need the lower speed limit and it's up to local authorities to introduce them.

    The MP for Telford, who is alleging she's been abused on social media, has cancelled her weekly surgery this Saturday and her office is currently closed.

    Lucy Allan has also deactivated her Twitter and Facebook accounts, saying they are a distraction.

    She says she knows people like to see what their MP is doing though, so she will put them back online when the situation is "less heated".

    A blind Hodnet man says he shouldn't be expected to pick up his dog's mess.

    Hodnet council has contacted Brian Wood to tell him it has had a number of complaints and it's suggesting he takes someone with him, to pick up the muck.

    He says that would limit his independence.

    These official household spending figures, external are fascinating.

    For instance, the Office for National Statistics estimates the average West Midlands family spends £55.50 a week on food and drink. I want to shop where they shop.

    The ONS also suggests we spend £4.70 a week on our pets, £13.50 a month eating at restaurants and cafes and £6.60 a week on drinks at the pub (that's one of the lowest in the country).

    People in the West Midlands spend the least on clothing and footwear, according to the Office for National Statistics.

    Of course there could be all sorts of reasons for this - relatively cheap prices for instance.

    The ONS has produced all sorts of figures, external today and they also suggest people in our region spend less than the rest of England on recreation and leisure.

    The goalkeeper broke his nose at Grimsby last night and he might need an operation on it.

    He also suffered a badly cut face and concussion after colliding with one of the Grimsby players and is expected to miss the next couple of games.

    Another attempt is being made to demolish the cottage where the Shroshire author Mary Webb lived.

    In 2013 plans to replace Spring Cottage with a 6-bedroom house were thrown out by councillors and an appeal by the developers was rejected last year.

    These new plans address some of the concerns brought up by Shropshire's planning committee, but still involve demolishing the cottage and building a new home on the site.  

  18. Telford MP makes harassment complaint to policepublished at 13:44

    The MP for Telford has asked the police to investigate, after alleging she received a death threat on social media.

    The Metropolitan Police have confirmed they are investigating a complaint of harassment made on 2 December, but won't confirm it concerns Lucy Allan.

    West Mercia police say they received a complaint on 4 December alleging offensive message had been sent.
