    Two of Telford & Wrekin Council's most senior managers, external are stepping down in a new round of cost-cutting.

    Laura Johnson, who's in charge of children's services, and the director of health and social care, Paul Taylor ,are both retiring in the New Year. 

    Their posts will merge, and another director will be appointed to run the rest of the council's business.

    A motorcyclist has been seriously injured in a crash on the road between Shifnal and Telford (A4169).

    It happened near the turn-off to The Wyke at 07:30 and the man in his 20's was taken to hospital suffering serious head injuries.

    Shropshire's fire service had produced some fire prevention leaflets for the 12 days of Christmas.

    It says that with most of us staying on our homes over the festive period, the risk of accidents in the home goes up.

    Here's another look at the new garden in the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital's revamped mortuary.

    The idea is for the trees to form a calming shelter above people's heads, so that they can take a moment to gather their thoughts after visiting the mortuary.

    The new leader of Shropshire Council, external, Malcolm Pate, has promised a more "consensus" style of decision-making. 

    Speaking about the cutbacks still to be made, he's called the job a "poisoned chalice".

    He's also insisting his selection to succeed Keith Barrow was unanimous.

  7. M54 roadworks delayed by weatherpublished at 11:06

    A lane will remain closed eastbound on the M54 today, between junctions three for Albrighton and two for Wolverhampton.

    Highways England says the work to repair the damaged road surface is over-running because of bad weather.

    The section of road will close completely on Wednesday night, so the work should be complete by Thursday morning.

  9. Mortuary reopens after £0.5m upgradepublished at 10:18

    The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital's mortuary has reopened after a £500K revamp. 

    Earlier in the year the Care Quality Commission highlighted it as being inadequate.

    Identification is taking place of a body found washed up on the banks of the River Severn at Leighton, near Buildwas, on Sunday.

    It's thought to be that of 22-year-old Thomas Bebbington, who was last seen trying to swim across the river in Shrewsbury, late at night, nearly a month ago.

    Opposition Liberal Democrats have been quick to urge Malcolm Pate to return to the old-style committee structures, rather than have power concentrated in the hands of one person.   

    Councillor Pate, who's 71, has been leader of the old county council and chairman of the unitary authority since its formation in 2009.
