  2. Football: Shrewsbury chairman backs Mellonpublished at 17:54

    The Shrewsbury Town chairman has given the vote of confidence to manager Micky Mellon, after their 7-1 defeat to Chesterfield.

    In a statement to fans, Roland Wycherley says both he and the board are 100% behind the manager and will back Mellon in the transfer window.

    The chairman says it wouldn't be practical to offer a refund to fans who made the trip to Chesterfield, but the club will lay on free coaches to this weekend's Cardiff game.

    Shropshire stuntman Justin Pearson is going into training for a charity boxing match on 19 March. 

    It's something stunt performers all over the country are doing, to raise money for a critically injured colleague.

    Justin has worked on blockbusters like James Bond, Harry Potter and Star Wars, but says he hasn't boxed since he was a child.

  5. Football: Shrewsbury's Collins looking forward to a new startpublished at 17:20

    Shrewsbury Town's James Collins has been talking about his loan move to Northampton Town and says it came about very suddenly.

    Collins told the BBC he first learnt about their interest last Thursday and things developed quickly from there.

    Last season's top scorer says he's been really impressed by what he's seen at the League Two club so far.

    Not an unusual sight in a river, but this is normally a field in Atcham, just outside Shrewsbury.

    The government can't say when a decision will be made on plans for two wind farms in mid-Wales.

    They were due to be linked to the electricity network with a series of pylons through north Shropshire.

    The Department for Energy and Climate Change had refused planning permission, but the High Court has ordered a rethink.

    Attingham Park is providing the inspiration for a new story by the Oscar-winning creator of Downton Abbey, Julian Fellowes.

    Belgravia is set during the Napoleonic Wars and will be published in installments which you can download to smartphones or tablets, before it is released in hardback.

    The first installment will be out in April.

  10. Record breaking year for football shirt charitypublished at 16:15

    The RAF Shawbury charity which collects football shirts and takes them to needy people around the world says it delivered 7,256 of them last year, to 15 countries.

    When you add the school uniforms to that total, it rises to 27,380 items, the biggest in Taking Football to Africa and Beyond's nine-year history.

    The kit went to schools in Guinea, Mexico, South Africa, Uganda, Jamaica, UAE, Nepal, Ukraine, Belarus, Lithuania, Gambia and Zambia.

    It also went to refugee camps on the Syria/Turkey border and to the Gaza strip.

  11. Travel: Delays around M54 Shifnal turn-offpublished at 16:00

    There are some serious delays around the junction four (the Shifnal turn off) of the M54 this afternoon.

    The police have closed the eastbound slip road onto the motorway, so they can carry out some investigation work there.

    It was the same spot where a skeleton was discovered last year.

  13. Football: Collins signs for Northamptonpublished at 15:30

    Shrewsbury Town striker James Collins has signed on loan at League Two Northampton until the end of the season.

    Last season’s top scorer has dropped a division to try to help second-placed Northampton to promotion.

    Collins says he might consider making the move permanent in the summer.

    Meanwhile, Shrewsbury are continuing discussions with Fulham over extending Larnell Cole's loan until the end of the season, but Liam McAlinden has gone back to Wolves.

    AFC Telford United have released Callum Hassan following his short spell with the club, and Liam Slade and Sam Austin have ended their period on loan from Burton.

    Emergency calls to West Mercia Police on New Year's Eve were down 7% compared to the previous year.

    During the busiest hour, between 01:00 to 02:00, calls were coming through every 56 seconds, police say.

    The Environment Agency still has five flood alerts, external for Shropshire, but in most places the river levels are peaking or are about to peak.

    The agency is warning that a number of roads could still be affected by flooding.

    Ofsted says improvements at a secondary school in Telford which is in special measures haven't happened fast enough., external

    A follow-up visit by inspectors to Charlton School in Dothill found the changes only really came into force in September and haven't yet had enough of an impact.

    Work is underway to turn the school into an Academy and the school says it has made progress in a limited amount of time.

  19. Telford Conservative leader accepts cuts are 'very challenging'published at 14:05

    The leader of the Conservatives group on Telford and Wrekin council has accepted that the Labour-run authority has some "very challenging" cuts to make.

    But Councillor Andrew Eade says it should look at cutting staff travel allowances, which he says could save up to £500,000 and draw on a £12m pot of money in the council reserves.

    Councillor Eade also questioned the money spent on projects like the council solar farm, external and said it needs to focus on essential services.

    He welcomed the changes the government is making to local government.
