  1. Watch: Shropshire apprentices restoring classic carpublished at 14:00

    Eight Shropshire-based apprentices have been given the job of restoring a 60-year-old classic car.

    Over the next year or so the Lancia Aurelia will be stripped to its nuts and bolts and then rebuilt at Classic Motor Cars on the Stanmore Industrial Estate in Bridgnorth.

  2. Department of Health says it will ease pressure on GPspublished at 13:38

    The Department of Health has responded to complaints from GPs, who claim the service is in crisis, and says it knows doctors are currently under pressure.

    It says it's looking to recruit 5,000 more doctors in general practice by 2020 and will cut red tape.

    NHS England says it's "working hard" to help GPs through "current pressures" and is investing £10m on ways to "further boost the workforce".

  3. MP hopeful that London train could stop in Gobowenpublished at 13:24

    The MP for North Shropshire has told BBC Radio Shropshire that people in the Oswestry area deserve a direct train to London.

    Owen Paterson wants the existing Virgin service to Shrewsbury to make stops at Gobowen in the future and is meeting representatives from the company today, along with representatives from Network Rail and Arriva Trains Wales.

    Virgin said last month that it's considering extending the service beyond Shrewsbury and maybe stopping in Wrexham.

    The first wave of applications closes next week.

    A 50-year-old man's been questioned on suspicion of setting fire to a house in Shifnal.

    A 21-year-old woman, in the house at the time, was given treatment by paramedics.

    Family doctors in Shropshire are leading calls for industrial action - or even mass resignations from the NHS - when their representatives meet at the end of the month. 

    An extraordinary meeting of the Local Medical Committee has been called at the behest of doctors, who say the service is in crisis.

  11. AFC Telford anticipating busy day in transfer marketpublished at 10:58

    AFC Telford United have had a new bid to re-sign Connor McCarthy on loan from Southport turned down. 

    The Bucks came very close to bringing the striker back to the club following a successful loan spell earlier this season, but Southport have injuries and need to keep him as cover. 

    But it could still be a busy day for Telford with several deals in the balance and some potential departures too.

    MPs and industry executives are meeting in Oswestry today to talk about the chances of extending Shropshire's direct rail service from London - as far as Gobowen and Wrexham.

    Owen Paterson, Daniel Kawczynski and the Wrexham MP Ian Lucas will meet representatives of Virgin, Arriva Trains Wales and Network Rail. 

    There are several hurdles to get over. Space would need to be found in the timetable, and there'd need to be long-enough platforms.

    The first major review of NHS advice in 20 years says even a small amount can raise the risk of cancer and the weekly limit for men and women should be the same, roughly seven pints of beer.

  16. Operations postponed as junior doctors plan to strikepublished at 09:07

    The trust which runs Shropshire's two main hospitals says some operations and procedures will have to be postponed, because of Tuesday's planned strike by junior doctors.

    Its Medical Director, Edwin Borman, says they're "working hard to make sure patients are safe - and disruption is kept to a minimum".

    Those who are affected will be told in advance.

    Shropshire Council say they're confident a decision on the future of The Quarry swimming pool will be made this year.
