    Allan in a Spitfire

Allan Scott from Wem is now 95 and said it was a plane that "would never let you down".

He flew during the Battle of Britain and the Siege of Malta and said sometimes in a dog fight he was so scared that "perspiration would get down into the mouth and into the eyes".

Last year he got the chance to fly one again (pictured above), and impressed his co-pilot by completing a number of mid-air manoeuvres.

    Quote Message

The Spitfire to me was the most marvelous aircraft in the world. You fly it by instinct, especially in combat and the Spitfire fits you, you are part of the aircraft."

Well, it seems to have struck a chord with a few of you - here are some of the comments we've received:

Emma Wilkes wrote: "People's pure laziness and lack of respect for the beautiful countryside that surrounds us. A massive cost is spent by the council to deal with fly tipping!"

Steve Speke: "I hate fly tipping but why do our councils make it so difficult to for people to get rid of rubbish?"

Karen Smith-Forsyth: "Disgraceful, you can call the council and they will collect for a very small fee. This infuriates me."

The £1.4m project started in 2013. Time-lapse footage filmed by Richard Knisely-Marpole  captured the final preparations ahead of the grand reopening tomorrow.

Mellon says he first saw him when he was playing for non-league Droylsden in the Conference North and described him as a "real talent" with a desperate desire to do prove himself.
