    Those behind Shrewsbury's first town-centre 10k road race say they're delighted with how it went yesterday and are already looking to stage it again.

    Hundreds of runners took part and race director Tom Meehan said was delighted with the support of the competitors and everyone around the route who cheered the runners on.

    The winner was Paul Ward from the Telford Athletics Club who came home in 33 minutes and 30 seconds.

    Shropshire Council leader Malcolm Pate has been reflecting on his fall from power when he was leader of the old Shropshire County Council.

    After six years in the job he was replaced by Councillor Keith Barrow in 2009, when the Shropshire unitary authority was created, replacing all the old borough and district councils.

    He says some people within the Conservative party weren't happy with the changes and decided to demote him to chairman.

    He was reappointed to the job when councillor Barrow stood down earlier this year.

    Police Community Support Officer Derren Tomlinson was formally dismissed by West Mercia earlier on 14 March, after a misconduct hearing.

    Tomlinson, 44, of Riverdale Road, Shrewsbury, admitted the rape of a child and bestiality last month and was today sentenced to 11 years in jail at Shrewsbury Crown Court.

    A Police Community Support Officer has been jailed for more than 11 years for raping a child.

    Derren Tomlinson, 44, from Shrewsbury admitted the charge last month, along with allegations of sexual assault and bestiality for which he received concurrent jail terms.

    Jailing him at Shrewsbury Crown Court, Judge Robin Onions told Tomlinson his offences were the result of a significant degree of planning, and had caused immeasurable damage.

     He said Tomlinson was unable to control himself and posed a significant risk of reoffending.

    Ambulance bosses have said "no" ambulances for a short period on Saturday was a  "very undesirable position" and could have put patients at risk.

    Mark Docherty, Director of Clinical Commissioning at West Midlands Ambulance service, says it was due the "inefficiency in the system" meaning a number of ambulances getting delayed at hospitals.

    Almost 700 convicted sex offenders have been removed from the register in the past four years, the BBC has learned.

    Since 2012 at least 170 rapists and 157 child abusers were told they no longer had to register with the police.

    They include people convicted of raping boys and girls, incest, and taking indecent images of children.

    West Mercia Police was named among the forces to approve the fewest applications, with 33% of requests resulting in names removed from the register.

    By comparison, North Wales Police approved 90% of requests.

    Thousands visited the annual North Shropshire College lambing day at their Walford campus over the weekend.

    Shepherd Oliver Coombs has been working around the clock to deliver lambs.

    Last year’s Spring Lambing Day attracted over 4,000 visitors to the college. On Saturday visitors got to see lambs just minutes old.

    "No ambulances were available in the whole of Shropshire" for a short period on Saturday, a West Midlands Ambulance Service boss has admitted.

    The ambulance service has been invited to a meeting of Shropshire councillors this morning to explain why it takes so long to get an ambulance and why there were such major problems on Saturday.

    Ambulance service Director of Clinical Commissioning Mark Docherty said the "zero status" on ambulances on Saturday was mainly due to delays in patients being handed over at hospitals. 

    That's in addition to general delays in ambulance response times. 

    Three quarters of the most urgent cases should be seen within eight minutes. Here in the Shropshire Council area that figure is 60%.

    Student Grace Cranfield, from Randlay sheered her locks off for charity over the weekend.

    She's raising money for the pet charity PDSA and Cancer Research UK. She's also donating the hair cut off to the Little Princess Trust which provides real hair wigs to children undergoing cancer treatment.
